Zacariah Avant

August 30, 1949 ~ June 7, 2017 (age 67)

Mr. Zacariah Avant was born in Marion County on August 30 to Mr. Jordan and Alpha O. Avant. He attended school in Marion.

After graduating from Johnakin High School, Zack worked for Dupont of Florence.

He accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and served as a faithful Usher at St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church until he moved away. Upon leaving Marion he went to New Jersey and worked for Mr. Bigs in Northfield. Zack moved to Massachusetts and worked setting up displays in New Stores. Later the company relocated him to Detroit. There he worked for Spartan Co. when he left Spartan he became a purchasing agent for the Sheraton Hotel Chains of Southfield Mi.

Zack was a hard working dedicated, conscientious employee wherever he worked. While in Detroit Zack became a member of Greater Beulah Missionary Baptist Church were he served as a Trustee and sang on the Special Chorus Choir along with forty nine others. His favorite song was “I Been In The Storm Too Long”.

When Zack’s baby brother Reuben became ill, he went to Avantura care for him. After Reuben passed in 1993, Zack came to SC and assisted Mother, where he lived until God called him home on June 6, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House.

Mr. Jordan and Alpha Avant, his parents and Reuben his baby brother preceded him in death.

Zack leaves to cherish his fond memories a son Zack II, two brothers Jordan (Marie) Avant, and James (Odett) Avant two sisters Lillie (James) Reid and Elizabeth Avant, one aunt Wainita Woods of Ga., one uncle Nathaniel Wilson and many, many nieces and nephews, and loving cousins and friends. Zack was very fond of all his nieces and nephews. He thought they were awesome and were very close to most of them. Special friends Earl Rowell, his class mate, Bobby Williams, his fishing buddy, Crumb (Richard)  who said “Zack was more than a brother to him”and Cleveland and Mable McCall .

Zack will be solely missed and we shall cherish his fond memories and all the times we spent together, how much laughter and joy we shared.
