Obituary

Markeysha Renee Johnson, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 30, 2017 at the age of 37 in Marion, South Carolina. She will be forever missed as a mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Markeysha, known fondly as Keysha, was born on March 11, 1980 to the late Johnny Lee Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Johnson in Marion South Carolina. She matriculated through the public school system of Mullins, South Carolina and graduated with the MHS class of 1999.

Markeysha wore a few hats career wise.  She worked for Russel Stover Candies, a well known supplier of candy, chocolates, and confections in the United States.  But her true passion was as a hair stylist. She was self-employed as a hair braider, where she consulted with clients and constructed personalized, one of a kind braid styles for them.  She was an excellent stylist, and her creativity with hair left clients both satisfied and eager for their next custom hair styles.

Keysha’s most important role, and the one she was most proud of, was that of a mother.  Markeysha loved being a mother and loved both of her sons dearly.

Markeysha grew up with a strong Christian foundation and accepted the Lord at an early age.  As a child she sang in the church choir for many years, and as an adult she was proud to speak about the goodness of God. Keysha was also an avid sports fan, and loved the game of basketball.  As a child she was often found on the playing basketball, and in her senior year of high school she led her team to the state championship.

Markeysha will be lovingly remembered for her smile which was both electric and contagious.  She could light up a room with her presence, her pearlie whites, and her bright eyes. Keysha’s smile was one that demanded reciprocation.

Markeysha will be sadly missed by many.  She would often go out of her way to help others in any way that she could and offer encouragement. She was a devoted daughter, a proud mother, a loving sister, a kind friend, and a gentle spirit.

She is survived and forever remembered by sons Markeaton Johnson and Cajun Johnson, her mother Mary E. Johnson, her sister Rhonda Johnson, her brother Kenyatta Cooper, aunts Mable Gerald (Charlie Walters), Lillie R. Sanders (Calvin Sanders), Betty Council, Doris Council, Joyce Mills , Barbara Williams (Charles Williams),  nieces Makenzie Johnson, Makiya Johnson, Ma’Kasia Johnson, Tiesha McCrae, Tajhai Lenox, Deja Cooper, Kenya Cooper, nephew Kenyatta Cooper, devoted special friend Shaun Leggett, and a host of friends and family members. She is proceeded in death by her father Johnny Lee Johnson, her maternal grandparents Tillman and Mary-Jane Dukes Godbolt, her paternal grandmother Goldie Johnson, and her uncles Nathaniel Godbolt and John Godbolt (Stella Godbolt).
