Yvonne Graves Davis was born on August 14, 1946 in Mullins, S.C., the eighth child of the late Lawrence C. & Leona G. Graves.

She entered the world five minutes after her twin, the late Levone Graves, she is preceded in death by her aforementioned parents, twin brother,  brothers Walter Graves, Lawrence Graves, Jr, and sisters Shelby Peterson and Donnella Simon.

“Sister” as she was affectionately called was a bright student with a keen attention towards mathematics during her education at Zion Elementary School. At Palmetto High School, she was a popular student athlete being a member of many school clubs, winning Miss Homecoming 1964, and hitting winning shots  as “Lefty” on her basketball team. After graduation, Yvonne attended Durham Business College before settling in New York City.  With her beauty queen looks, Yvonne pursued fashion modeling at various African-American showcases while working at Lord & Taylor and Macy’s .

On May 31, 1969, Yvonne married George Washington Davis, and from this union bore two children, a son, Dion Davis and a daughter, Chenique Davis. She pursued and obtained a cosmetology license while working as Lead Teller at Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1981, Yvonne started working for the United States Postal Service, working her way from a LSM operator to a Training Technician during her almost 30 years there. Yvonne helped thousands of people achieve their goals of working various positions at U.S.P.S. while receiving numerous accolades for her job performance and attendance. She retired in 2009, and moved back to Mullins, S.C. with her husband.

Yvonne was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church before following her pastor at the formation of New Jerusalem Worship Center in Jamaica, New York.

Yvonne loved to devote her time to her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family.  The bonds she had with her siblings was unparalleled, her sisters were her best friends and confidants and their cooking would always bring a crowd both familiar and non familiar to any gathering.  She showed her love through her cooking with her four layer chocolate cakes and her macaroni and cheese dishes.  She was also known for her fashionable flair always being impeccably dressed for all occasions from family cookouts to shopping trips to Macy’s with her sisters to any other formal event.
