The family of Brother William Stanley Hicks Jr. in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Hicks family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
Brother William Stanley Hicks Jr. was 63, and departed this life on Sunday May 3, 2020 in Marion County. He was the father of Williams Trey Hicks III and Michaela Hicks.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Wednesday May 6, 2020 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest in the Pentecostal United Church Cemetery, Johnsonville, SC. The family will provide a guest list.

Verlene Gause Hicks “Shug” was born on August 17, 1961 in Marion, South Carolina to the late Mr. Isaiah Gause and Esterlene Gerald Gause Adams. Shug entered the eternal army of Jesus Christ on April 15, 2020 at 8:11PM in Marion, South Carolina.
William Stanley Hicks Jr. “Stanley” was born on June 16. 1956 in Marion, South Carolina to the late Mr. William Stanley Hicks Sr. and Mae Hazel Gibson Hicks. Stanley suited up for the Lord’s army on May 3, 2020 at 9:26PM.
Verlene attended public schools in Marion County, South Carolina and was a proud graduate of the class of 1980. She began working at AVM in Marion, South Carolina and was gainfully employed for 11 years.
Stanley was educated in the public schools of Marion County and graduated in 1974. He joined the United States Army Reserves and graduated from Voorhees College in 1978.
Verlene obtained her CDA in early child education and completed Florence Darlington Technical College in Early Childhood Program. Mrs. Hicks devoted many years to providing a foundation for many little children throughout the county of Marion until her unexpected passing.
Stanley loved the outside and began a lawn care service in Horry County, South Carolina. He built a legacy for more than 35 years as Quality First Landscaping.
Stanley and Verlene have been united once again with many of their loved ones: their parents Mr. Isaiah Gause and Esterlene Gerald Gause Adams, Mr WIlliam and Hazel Hicks, two sisters, Jacqueline Redd and Dora Lee Gause, and a brother, Russell Lee Gause.
Verlene and Stanley became bone of bone and flesh of flesh on February 17, 1991. This love was pure, true, and blessed by God with two amazingly talented and gifted children; William Stanley Hicks III “Trey” stationed in Fairfield, California in the United States Air Forces and Michaela Beatrice Hicks of Marion, South Carolina. A special nephew Justin A. Redd, a special daughter Kaprisha (Kevin) Grant both of Marion, South Carolina, her siblings; Geraldine (Theodore) Williams and Anna (Raymond) Hunter both of Marion South Carolina, and one brother-in-law Kenneth (Wendy) Hicks of Florence, South Carolina. A devoted niece Melody, Goddaughter Angilo, and Tanya all of Marion South Carolina. A few special nephews; Quincy (Tasha), Thaddeus (Jennifer), Derrick, Maurice, Russell (Kristy), Brandon (Kendra), Kerry (Belinda), Aundre (Nadia), Marqui, Kendall, K2 ( Brittney), Carlton, Jakelan( Chabree) and Aquin. Two grandchildren Kevin Jr, and Kashanti Grant. Several aunts and uncles; Lucile Owens of Ft. Pierce, FL, Eartha Grissett, Maregett( Lew) Howell, and Bruce Hicks all of Jacksonville FL, James ( Rachell) Hicks of Clinton, MD, Audrey (Clemson) Cole of Atlanta GA, Dorthy Richardson of Marion, SC and Ann Davis of Pittsburg PA. Love flowed with a host of cousins, great nieces, nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
