Walter Gadson Obituary

Father Walter Gadson was 87, and departed this life Tuesday October 27, 2020 in Florence County. He was the husband of Jessie Lee Gadson. You may visit the family at 112 West Signode Rd. Latta.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at the Resthaven Cemetery, Dillon, Tuesday November 3, 2020 at 1:00 pm. Services will be live stream on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page. 

~ The Obituary ~

“Now, I lay me down to sleep, kind family and friends pray, do not weep.  I’m free from all perplexity and pain, I shall not wake in this world again.  My dreams shall evermore be sweet until the time we shall meet.”

Mr. Walter “Butler” Gadson, the son of the late Sam and Della Gadson was born on June  29, 1933 in Marlboro County, SC and departed on October 27, 2020 at MUSC in Florence, SC.

Walter, received his education from the Dillon County, SC.  He retired from Paperboard in Latta, SC.  At an early age, he gave his life to God and joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Latta, SC.

Walter, leaves to cherish his wife of the home for 67 years, Jessie Cox.  They were joined in holy matrimony on December 25, 1953.  They were blessed with five children: Alma Manning, Walter(Phyllis) Gadson, Jr, Glendell Johnson, Mary Timmons and Jeff(Geraldine) Gadson all of Latta, SC.  Preceding him to his death was his siblings; Hattie Mae Primus, Rebecca Bethea, Lizzie Bethea, William Gadson, Raymond Gadson and Jimmy Gadson.  He leaves his only sister Lou Ann Breeden of Latta, SC.    He leaves to cherish 3 sister-in-laws: Ann Randolph of New jersey, Katie Mae Abrams and Barbara(Fred) Roberts both of Winston-Salem, NC. He leaves to cherish one son-in-law Leroy Timmons of Latta, SC.

Walter, has 13 grandchildren; Tomica Manning, Shannon Green, Chauncey Green, Samuel Grice, Leroy Timmons, Reggie Grice, Karema Timmons, Tyler Gadson, Zenobia Burgess, Shaniqua Timmons and Eric Gadson.  One of the grandkids preceded him at death, Asia Timmons.  He had 24 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.  He has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

The family of Father Walter Gadson, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Gadson family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
