Mother Virginia Lee Buey Vereen was 88, and departed this life Thursday September 21, in Marion County. You may visit the family at 426 Luther Rogers Rd. Marion.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the St. Mary AME Church on Wednesday September 27, at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Franklin Cemetery.

Mother Virginia (Ginny) Lee Buey Vereen

Virginia (Ginny) Lee Buey Vereen was born on September 11, 1935. She was the daughter of the late Wesley & Florence Legette Buey of Marion, South Carolina. As a young girl, she worked on the farm and attended St. Mary A.M.E. Church in Marion, South Carolina maintaining the honored Buey's tradition.
Ginny was reared in Marion County and attended public schools. In 1954, she graduated as part of the inaugural class from Terrell's Bay High School in Centenary, South Carolina. Additionally, Ginny attended Technical College where she studied Accounting and Bookkeeping. She became a Seamiest and Business Owner.
Ginny was joined in union to the late Joseph (Sonny Boy) Vereen from Williamsburg County, South Carolina. To this union was blessed with two children. After marriage, the couple moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was employed as a Dye House Worker for over 20 years, and an active member of the International Union Local #10.
Ginny returned to Marion, South Carolina to care for her mother (Florence). She reconnected to St. Mary A.M.E. Church and became a faithful Usher Board Member. Additionally, Ginny joined her Tent’s Sisters where she faithful served as Recorder.
Ginny loved God, attending church, tent meetings, cooking, bingo, eating spot fish, playing spades with her siblings and friends, and gathering with family.
Mother Virginia (Ginny) Lee Buey began her journey into eternity on Thursday afternoon. God saw his servant was tired and he whispered "well done thy good and faithful servant, I will give you peace and rest." Mother Ginny departed this life at home in Marion, South Carolina on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Ginny is preceded in death by five brothers, sisters and one grandson. Brothers: Edward, Izell, Harry, Troy and Henry. Sisters: Marcenia, Hannah, Annie Mae, Mary Kate and Bertha Lou. Grandson: Zacourie G. Jackson.
Ginny is survived by two children, Josephine Adams of Myrtle Beach, SC; Jonathon K. Vereen of Savannah, GA; granddaughter, Kenyetta V. Powell (Earnest) of Charleston, SC; grandsons: Joshua K. Vereen (Aliesha) of Greensboro, NC; Jovares K. Vereen of Atlanta, GA; Keith A. Adams of Myrtle Beach, SC; great grandchildren: Jairus, Jordan, Angelia, Kaelob, Jahmari and David; Goddaughter, Reverend Arletha F. Fore. She will also be missed by her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, tent sisters, classmates and friends.
