~ Obituary ~

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

Brother Victor L. Howard, affectionally known as “Vick”, was born August 11, 1950, to the late M.L. and Ethel Howard. He departed this life on Friday September 17, 2021, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence S.C.  Victor was a graduate of Rains Centenary School in Rains S.C., where he was a member of the class of 1971.  After graduation Victor became a brick mason and worked in that area for numerous years. He later worked for Lewis Truck Line as a long-distance truck driver. He was a member of Bethlehem AME Church, where he served as a trustee for many years.

Brother Victor was married to Mattie Howard whom he affectionally called Saphi for 46 years. Together they were blessed with 5 children. Victor was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was humble and was slow to anger. He played a large part in the lives of his friends and family by being a listening ear and giving advice whenever needed. Victor faced many adversities throughout his life, but he still saw the good in every situation. He was always there to give a laugh and treasured his time spent with family.

Victor was preceded in death by his brother James Howard, one sister Mae Dell Wilson and one son in law Teamore Owens III.

Victor leaves to cherish his fond and loving memory: his loving and devoted wife Mattie Howard; two sons, Carl (Angie) Brantley of Mullins, SC and Maurice (Stephanie) Howard of Marion, SC ; three daughters, Victoria (Kevin) Dozier and Pamela Owens of Marion, SC, and Matpatrena Howard of Wake Forest, NC.; one god daughter Mary Bristow of Mullins, SC.  Two brothers, Cleveland (Dora) Nance of Fork, SC and David (Mary) Howard of Marion, SC.  Two sisters, Alice Conner of Buffalo, New York and Glenentle Wilson of Marion, SC.  Seven brothers -in- laws, nine sisters- in- laws, thirteen grandchildren, four great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family of Brother Victor Lewis Howard in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Howard family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions.
