Stevie Bennett Obituary

Brother Stevie Bennett, 52, departed this life at his home Friday July 19, 2019. He was the nephew of Maeolda Calhoun. You may visit the family at 5811 Highway 9. Gresham.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Friendship AME Church, Friendship Thursday July 25, 2019 at 2:00 pm.  He will be laid to rest in the Old Ford Cemetery, Friendship.

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 

On July 19, 2019 at 12:55 a.m., at his home, Stevie “Shag” Bennett departed this life. Mr. Stevie Bennett was born on March 16, 1967 to the late Mae Helen Bennett.

Stevie attended Terrell’s Bay High School, located in Centenary, S.C, where he received his diploma. While in high school, Stevie attended Marion Vocational Center, located in Marion, S.C, where he received his certification in small engine repair. Stevie became a skillful farmer, at an early age, and worked in farming for over 30 years. Stevie was a member of the White Sox Softball Team, of the Friendship Community, where he held down left field. Stevie was known in the community for his love of sports and was a rock-solid fan of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

Stevie leaves to cherish his fond and loving memory, three aunts: one special aunt Mrs. Maeolda Calhoun, of the home, who raised Stevie from birth, with the help of her husband the late Mr. Jessie Calhoun, Mrs. Lnetta (Jacob) Davis, and Ms. Maecile Shaw both of Gresham, SC; one uncle: Mr. Marvin Bennett of Gresham, SC; two special cousins who Stevie considered his brother and sister: Mr. James (Melissa) Calhoun of the home and Ms. Marlene Calhoun of Gresham, SC; three special friends: Wendell Hughes, Truluck Boatwright, and Fred Boatwright all of Gresham, SC. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A special thank you to McLeod Hospice of Florence, SC for all their hard work and compassion shown to Stevie throughout his time as their patient.
