Shirley Godbold Obituary

Sister Shirley Bartell Godbold was 78, and departed this life on Monday July 6, 2020 in Marion County. She was the mother of Janie Rose Bartell, Leola Bartell Williams, Roy Richardson Bartell and Jonathan Bartell. 

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Saturday July 11, 2020 at 10:00 am. She will be laid to rest at the St. Timothy Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mother Shirley B. Godbold known as “Na-Na” and grandma to many, was born on August 1, 1941 to Leatha Davis of Marion, SC.

Mother Shirley B. Godbold gained her heavenly wings on July 6, 2020 in Marion, SC.

Mother Shirley attended the public schools of Marion County and she was employed with English Park Medical Center for many years then later, then later to Mullins Nursing Center in Mullins, SC. Mother Shirley was a loving and devoted mother to all her children and a caring grandmother to all her grandchildren whom she loves very dearly. 

Mother Shirley was a faithful and life time member and mother of St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church. She served on the choir, usher board president, missionary, and church mother. She was an active member of the Star of Bethlehem Tent # 30. 

Mother Shirley is preceded in death by her husband; Rest Godbold, one sister; Jannie Mae Bartell, one daughter; Letha Marie Bartell Avant, and three brothers; Felix Bartell, Roy Bartell and James Avant. 

Mother Shirley leaves to cherish her love, strength, and her faith to her children: Leola (Jimmy) Bartell Williams, of Marion, SC, Roy Richardson (Gena) Bartell of Sumter, SC, JoeNathan (Connie) Bartell, of Hilarita, Florida  and Janie Rose Bartell of the home. Her twelve grandchildren: Calvin Avant, Marcus Avant, Dion Avant, Jeneral (Tamisha) Harps, Moneke Bartell, Cody Davis, Tiffany Bartell, Nicholas Bartell, John Bartell, Jaley Bartell, Jamesha Gerald and Jakala Finklea. A host of great-grands, cousins, nieces, nephews, the relayives and sorrowing friends. 

The family of Sister Shirley B. Godbold, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Godbold family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
