Brother Richard Eugene Nelson Jr. was 50, and departed this life on Thursday August 13, 2020 at his home in Fork, SC. He was the father of Ra'shad Nelson.

Public viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th, 2020 from 12 p.m.-7 p.m. 

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Florence National Cemetery on Thursday August 20, 2020 at 10:00 am. The family will provide a guest list. Services will be live stream on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

~ Life Reflections ~

Richard Eugene Nelson, Jr. was born on August 15, 1969, in Atlantic City, New Jersey to the late Richard Nelson Sr. and Gloria Jean Nelson Brown. He slipped into eternal peace and rest on August 13, 2020.

He was educated in the Dillon County Public School System, and graduated in 1987 from Lake View High School in :Lake View, SC.

After graduating from high school, Richard joined the US Nay and served until 1991. During his short but distinguished time in the Navy, he rose to the rank of Aviation Boatswains Mate Third Class and was awarded the following medals: Good Conduct Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Two Sea Service Deployment Awards, National Defense Medal, and the South East Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star. He served aboard the USS Nimitz, one to the Navy’s top Aircraft Carriers.

After he was honorably discharged from the US Navy, he worked at the Beneteau Boat Factory in Marion, and then worked as a meat cutter for various grocery stores in the area.

In 1993, he married Cassandra Thompson and this union was blessed with one son Ra’shad. He was also step father to Christopher Burroughs.

Richard spent his final years raising Darious and Donquvious Britt with his longtime companion Joyce Britt. During this time he enjoyed coaching baseball. He was a member of Monument of Faith Christian Ministries.

Those left tp cherish his loving memory his son Ra’shad Nelson of Florences, SC and a stepson Christopher (Eva) Burroughs of Houston, TX. His long time companion Joyce Britt of Marion, SC and her two sons Darious and Donquavious Britt.

His half -brother Timothy (Gina) Reaves of Cheapeake VA, his sisters: Angela (Ronald) Croxton of Glassboro, NJ, Pamela (Keith) Densten of Chesapeake, VA, LaShawn (Timothy) Robertson of Atco, NJ and Crystal Nelson of Chesapeake, VA.

A goddaughter: Malaysia Davis, aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends. 

The family of Brother Richard Eugene Nelson Jr, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Nelson family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
