Rev. William Jones Obituary

Rev. William Alford Jones was 81 and departed this life Sunday, January 24, 2021, in Marion County. He was the husband of Jeanette Hall Jones, the father of Patrick (Elizabeth) Jones, and grandfather of Chandler, Carson, and Carmen.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at the St. Phillips United Methodist Church Cemetery, Marion on Friday, January 29, 2021, at 12:00 noon.

~ Obituary ~
On January 9, 1940, the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie A Jones welcomed their sixth child. They named him Willie Jr. He was the baby among his siblings: Teretha, Cleveland, Cora M, Eunice, and Hazel. The family resided in Marion County. His parents and friends called him ”Bill”. His parents were lifelong members of St. Phillips United Methodist Church. Bill was a member along with his parents and siblings. 
Bill grew up and attended the public schools of Marion County. After graduating from Marion County Training School (Johnakin Middle School), he matriculated at South Carolina State College (SC State University) in Orangeburg, South Carolina. There he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education. 

After completing his college studies, Bill was employed as an Agriculture teacher in Allendale South Carolina. He taught there for five years, then was employed at Gibbs High School in Pamplico as an Agriculture teacher. When that program was consolidated, he was employed as a science teacher in Florence School District One. He accepted the opportunity to become employed as an Agriculture Agent with the Clemson Extension Service in Marion County. He retired from the Extension Service as County Director of Georgetown, Horry, and Marion Counties after twenty three years of dedicated service.He dedicated many days of hard work and patience to every job he had. 
During his first year of employment, Bill met and married the former Jeanette C. Hall. To this union, their one and only child was born, Patrick Alford Jones. The three were inseparable throughout Patrick’s formative years. Their bond remained up to the present. 
Surviving are: His soulmate, Jeanette of their home,his son Patrick(Elizabeth) of Austin, Texas, grandchildren: Chandler William, Carson Patrick, and Carmen Elise Jones; Godchildren: Diane G. Williams, Josiah Smith. His nieces: Valerie, Zenobia, Pamela, Brenita, Rita, Artney; nephews: Reggie, Martin, Anthony, Buddy; Special Cousin Marsden Owens and other great nieces and nephews. 
 

Included in the many organizations and Christian involvement : Man of the Year Award; First AA President of the SCCEAgents, First AA Chair Marion School District#1, First AA Chair Pee Dee Federal Board of Directors, First AA UMethodist District Lay Leader, Worshipful Master Joppa Hill Lodge #176. He was a 33rd Degree Prince Hall Free and Accepted Mason, Past potentate, Bejilah Temple #163 and Past CIC of McDonald Consistory.

He served in every local church leadership position at St. Phillips UMethodist Church and St. Stephens UMethodist Church. 
God called him into the ministry after his professional career retirement and he was blessed to pastor at St. Michael UMC and the Marion Parish. Serving others gave him great joy.
Rev. Jones always provided well for his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and did beautiful landscaping around his home and kept the family farmland groomed.may his soul rest with the Creator of heaven and earth. 
 

The family of Rev. William Alford Jones in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state, and the local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Jones family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
