Mother Minnie Crawford Obituary

Mother Minnie Bell Crawford was 93, and departed this life on Saturday November 5, in Marion County. She was the mother of Gladys Pee, Calvin Crawford, Christy Cochran, Sharon Crawford, Reginald Crawford and Corey Crawford. You may visit the family at 2520 Lebby Dr. Mullins (Rains Community).

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Bethlehem AME Church, Rains on Monday November 14, 2022 at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest St. James AME Church Memorial Garden.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Psalm 91:1-2

Mrs. Minnie Bell Howard Crawford was born June 5, 1929, in Rains, SC to the late Rev. Albert and Gladys Howard.  She departed this life on 11/5/2022 at Medical University of South Carolina in Marion, SC. She was 93 years old.  Mother Crawford received her education from the Marion County public schools. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Hayvern Crawford and together they reared 9 children. She was preceded in death by three of their sons, Curtis, McCoy, and Wallace Crawford, one daughter, Linda Legette. Two grandsons, David Cochran, Jr and Ervin Legette, one granddaughter, Brenda Boatwright and six brothers: James, Samuel, Wilson, John, Roosevelt, and Kenneth Howard.

At an early age, Mrs. Crawford accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and joined Bethlehem AME Church of Rains, SC. One of her favorite scriptures was 

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for Me? Jeremiah 32:27

While her health allowed, she was devoted to her church, and enjoyed singing in the Senior Choir.

Mrs.  Crawford worked at Heritage Sportswear in Marion, SC, SoPakCo in Mullins, SC and at Marion County Convalescence Center in Marion, SC where she served as head cook until she retired in her mid-sixties. 

Mrs. Crawford leaves to cherish fond memories three daughters: Dr. Gladys (James) Pee of Marion, SC, Christy (David) Cochran and Sharon Crawford of Rains, SC. Three sons: Calvin (Angela) Crawford of Columbia, SC, Reginald (Melissa) Crawford of Waco, Texas and Corey Crawford of Denver Colorado. One daughter in law, Sallie P. Crawford of North Plainfield, NJ, two sisters: Levata Mouzon of Florence, SC and Versa Howard of Rains, SC, one brother, Elder William Howard, of Florence, SC, and a lifelong friend Mrs. Lucille Hemmingway of Rains, SC. Sixteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family of Mother Minnie Bell Crawford in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state, and local community,  will hold a 100 person or less funeral service for their loved one with interment immediately following. While the Crawford family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
