~ Obituary ~

Gracie S. Broome was born in Marion, SC on October 7,1928 and departed this life on Saturday June 26, 2021. Gracie was the fourth of nine children born to the Late Rev. Lorenzo and Odessa Stevenson. Gracie was formerly married to the Late Mr. T.C. Broome, a military veteran. As a child, Gracie attended the St. James Community School, and Marion County Training School graduating with the class of 1945. She later attended South Carolina State University where she majored in Elementary Education. Gracie moved to New York where her love for kids and passion for cooking and feeding others led her to run a daycare center and to operate Broome’s Kitchen in her spare time. Gracie relocated to Mullins, SC in 1993 and became a member of the New Born Assembly Church, where she served as an associate Pastor, taught, and participated in many auxiliaries. The simplest things in life brought much joy to Gracie, she loved to help others and most importantly, she loved God. Gracie’s purpose in life was intentional and she would often remind us by singing her favorite song “If I can help somebody as I go along the way, then my living shall not be in vain.” Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met.

Gracie is survived by two sons, Keith (Delores) Patterson, Jamar Gardner; two daughters, Jeanetha (Gilbert) Padilla, Sharmaine (Rob) Thomas; one brother, Donald (Emma) Stevenson; and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by two sons; Keith Broome, Darryl Broome, one daughter; Theopia Aiken, five brothers; Damon “Buster” Stevenson, Lorenzo “Junior” Stevenson Jr., Rev. Levern Stevenson, Booker T Stevenson, Theodore “Squeaky” Stevenson, two sisters; Alma Johnson, Miami Gerald; one grandson; Senator Rev. Clementa S. Pinckney.
