Merion Richardson Obituary

Mother Merion Reed Richardson was 85, and departed this life on Tuesday September 29, 2020. She was the mother of Gwendolyn Peppers, Curtis Richardson, Carl Richardson and Charles Richardson. You may may visit the family at 707 Holiday Ct. Marion. 

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Sunday October 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at the Jackson & Daughters Cemetery, Marion. Services will be live stream on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

Mrs. Merion Reed Richardson, 85, departed this life on September 29, 2020 at MUSC in Marion County.

On December 28,1934 Merion Reed Richardson was born to the late Ila Mae and James R. Reed in Marion County. She was raised by her loving and devoted stepfather Quincy (Ila Mae) Godbold.  She received her education from the public schools of Marion county. She worked at Heritage Sportswear for many years. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Charles W. Richardson and to their union they reared 7 loving children. She is preceded by 3 children in death: Norma Jean Whitten, Patricia Mullins, and Brenda Moore. Also preceding her in death are 3 sisters, 6 brothers,1 grandchild, and 2 great grandchildren.

At an early age in life she received Christ and joined Centerville Baptist Church, Centenary, South Carolina. She later joined Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Marion, South Carolina where she served on the usher board until her health failed.

She was affectionately known as “Monk.” She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and play on her tablet. She was also known for her biscuits and raisin nut cakes.

She leaves to cherish fond memories: one daughter Gwendolyn Peppers of Marion, South Carolina, three sons: Charles (Valerie) Richardson of Columbia, South Carolina, Carl (Linda) Richardson of Lake Wiley, South Carolina, and Curtis (Janice) Richardson of Florence, South Carolina; four children she raised as her own Valerie Lester of Florence, South Carolina, Milton Godbold of Marion, South Carolina, Melinda Moore of Mullins, South Carolina, and Spenser Moore of Marion, South Carolina. She was an adorable grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and supportive friends.

Also bound in memories and love are her three brothers: Bobby (Sylvia) Godbold, James (Raynell) Reid and Alfred Finklea; one sister: Queen Alexander; one son-in-law Ray Mullins; five sisters-in-law: Marian Reed, Flora Reed, Debbie Stevenson, Christa Reed, Christien Gause.

The family of Mother Merion Reed Richardson, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Richardson family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
