Mary Hemmingway Obituary

Sister Mary Hemingway was 78, and departed Thursday September 24, 2020 at her home in Marion County. You may visit the family at 6900 Spot Ct. Gresham. She was the mother of Mary Woodberry, Scott Hemingway, Joseph Hemingway, Tamica Dozier.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at Old Neck Cemetery on Friday October 2, 2020 at 12:00 pm. The services will be live stream on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page. 

Mary Ruth Rogers Hemingway is the daughter of the late Mr. Daniel Rogers Jr. and Mrs. Catherine Gause Rogers.

Mary Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Mr. Jacob “JB” Hemingway and her daughter Ms. Terria Denise Hemingway. Her Stepmother Mrs. Rosa Lee Gause Rogers, two brothers William “Bill” Rogers and Tommy “Mack Rogers, and one sister Minnie Pearl Richardson.

Mary Ruth leaves to cherish her memories her loving children Joseph (Karen) Hemingway, Mary Woodberry, and Scott (Deana) Hemingway all of Britton’s Neck, SC and Tamica (Jonathan) Dozier of Suffolk, VA. Eight sister Inell Woodberry of Chicago, IL, Queen Esther Davis, Judy Rogers, Marilyn Rogers, Evangelist Daphene “Ann” Rogers, and Connie (Mark) Bryant all of Britton’s Neck, SC; Ella (Simon) Wright of Brooklyn, NY. Annie Mae (Michael) Mosley of Elgin, SC Four brothers Daniel (Cynthia) Rogers Jr, of Britton’s Neck, SC Horace Rogers of Gresham, SC Arthur (Lou) Rogers of Spartanburg, SC, and Darrel (Marie) Rogers of Conway South Carolina. 12 grandchildren three of which she raised as her own Avery Watson of Marion, SC: Sade Edwards and Quenetta (Bryan) Duncan of Brooklyn, NY. 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. A very special sister and friend Elouise “Weezie” Finklea, four god kids, three sisters-in-law, and host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family of Sister Mary Hemingway, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Hemingway family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
