“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:6-7
Mary Elizabeth Burch, affectionately called “Snow”, was born on July 7, 1940 to the late Julia Burch and Hak Purnell. On Thursday, August 27, 2020, Mary answered the master’s call as he whispered, “well done my servant.”
Mary was educated in Dillon County Public Schools and was a graduate in the class of 1959. She converted her life at an early age and joined Sellers Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Pastor’s Aide committee, also becoming an honorary member of the Adult Choir.
Mary worked at Russell Stover Candy Factory for many years, until it’s closing, where she touched many lives and gained many friends. Mary was also a Junior Matron of Shining Light Tent No. 10.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Burch and Hak Purnell; two siblings, Dorothy Miles and Robert Purnell; also a loving son, Cecil Lavon Burch.
Mary leaves to cherish some very fond and loving memories, her children; Tyrone Burch and Fontella Burch of the home; a special son, Gregory White of Sellers, SC; eight grandchildren; Michelle Thompson, Joe Burch, Jonathan Green, Jehcarra Burch-Green, Josh Burch, Hanable (Kelvin) Burch, Johnnyle Green, and Ja-Tianna Green; four great-grandchildren; King Offutt-Green, Milaina Offutt-Green, Padgett Green, and Josiah Burch; God-daughter, Ayonna Lester; Special friends; Ernestine Burns, Ruby Davis, and Emma Lou Watson; a host of neighborhood children, grandchildren, family and friends.
The family of Mother Mary Burch , in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Burch family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
