MaeCeal Williams Obituary

Mother MaeCeal Hughes Williams departed this life on Monday, September 27, 2021, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. She is the mother of Carol W. Tindal, Ethel "Cookie" W. Rush. Glaris "Nuckie" W. Bethea, and Sylvia W. McDonald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Glad Williams, her daughter Mae Hazel Williams Willis, and her son, Steven Williams. 

The family is receiving friends daily from 3-6 pm at the home of her daughter, Glaris "Nuckie" Williams Bethea, 704 Mulberry Road, Centenary, SC. 

Funeral Services are scheduled for Sunday, October 3, 2021, at 1 pm in the Henry L. Jackson Memorial Park, 612 South Main Street in Marion, SC 29571.

Mrs. Mae Ceal Hughes Williams was born on Saturday, November 1, 1930 as the second child of four children to the late Simon and Marie Pee Hughes.
“At the stern of the ship stood the Captain, I could hear him when he called out my name, Get on board the Old Ship of Zion.” Early Monday morning she stepped on board to that Old Ship of Zion, departing this life on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, S.C. Mother Mae Ceal attended the Marion County Training School.


Mother Mae Ceal was married to the late Glad Williams of Marion, SC and to this union 8 children were born of whom two died during childbirth.
In her early years she was employed at Russell Stover’s Candies in Marion, S.C. Later she was employed at Hardee’s in Mullins, S.C. until her retirement. She took pride in her yard and she loved her colorful flowers. She loved her yard so much that she would cut grass twice a week if she could.


Mother Mae Ceal joined Centerville Missionary Baptist Church at an early age in the 1940’s. She has served as Secretary of the Sunday school, a member of the choir, as an usher and a member of the Missionary Society.


She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter: Mae Hazel W. Willis; a son: Steven Williams; a brother: Dan Hughes; a sister: Hattie Buie; a nephew: Curtis Mack; a son-in- law: Kenneth Rush, Sr.

This woman of great faith now leaves to cherish her loving memories: Four daughters: Carol (John) Tindal of Florence, SC, Ethel Rush of Marion, SC, Glaris (Jerome Foxworth) Bethea of Centenary, SC and Sylvia (Roy) McDonald of Corona, NY. Six grandchildren: Dante, Marc, Kelly, Kenny, Yalonda, and Shelonda; ten great-grandchildren, a sister: Trevor Mack of Centenary, SC; an aunt: Norford Pee of Mullins, SC; cousins: Annie Bell Williams, Elizabeth Legette and Louise Richardson; one sister- in- law: Mary Sue Williams of Florence, SC as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. As well as special caregivers: Ms. Lisa Brunson and Ms. Mattie Kinder.
 

Note: Due o the COVID-19 pandemic, funeral services for Mother Williams will be limited to a 50-person guest list for seating purposes.
