The family of Sister Laurie Marie Smith, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following.  While the Smith family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Sister Laurie M. Smith was 60, and departed this life Tuesday March 17, 2020 in Marion County. She was the wife of Robert McGill, the mother of Trietta Varner, Katayah Rickets, Katorah Hayes, Lauren Smith and Patrice McGill. You may visit the family at 6508 Katie Drive, Latta.

Public viewing will be Thursday March 26, 2020 at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, 12:00 pm -7:00 pm but due to the precaution of the COVID-19 there will not be no more than 10 people at a time for the viewing. 

Private family funeral services of 50 or less people are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Friday March 27, 2020 at 12:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins. 

~ Obituary ~

Mrs. Laurie Marie Smith entered external rest on Tuesday March 17, 2020 at her home in Latta, SC with her family.

Laurie was born in New Haven, Connecticut on April 9, 1959 the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret Staggers. Laurie graduated from Richard C. Lee High School in New Haven, Connecticut with the class of 1977. She attended Nursing School at Eli Whitney Tech.

Laurie was the most loving and kind person you will ever meet. Laurie didn’t mind doing for others and taking care of them. Laurie loved to crochet with her friend Mrs. Vera Davis.  Laurie also loved to cook, bake, and spend time with her family.

Laurie was preceded in death by four brothers: Thurman Wright, Daniel Staggers, Arthur Staggers, and Gary Staggers.

 Laurie leaves to cherish her loving husband Robert McGill of the home. Five Daughters: Trietta (James)Varner of Marion, SC. Katayah (Sherwood) Ricketts of Marion, SC, Katorah (Ronald) Hayes, of Florence, SC, Lauren Smith of Winston-Salem, NC and Patrice McGill of Fayetteville, NC. God daughter Jessica Evans and a special Daughter Sharlene Fore. Four Grandkids Jasmine Davis, Jamerson Davis, Ta-Nya McGill, Ja’Asia Hemingway. Two Sisters Olivia (Albert) Graham of Marion, SC and Tina Moore of New Haven, CT. Three brothers: Ronnie (Dee) Staggers of Columbia, SC, Chester (Marie) Staggers of Raleigh, NC, and Kevin (Bonnie) Staggers of Lexington, SC. Also, a host of nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, and special friend/sister Martha Isreal.
