Joseph Frazier Obituary

Father Joseph Wilbert Frazier was 89, and departed this life Saturday March 11, in Florence County. He was the husband of Mary Frazier. You may visit the family at 701 Smith St. Marion.

Public viewing will be Friday will be Friday March 17, 2:00 pm -8:00 pm following the Elks Memorial Service 7:00 pm -8:00 pm, at the Jackson & McGil Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday March 18, at 10:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Job Cemetery, Marion. Services will be live-streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

 

~ Obituary ~

Joseph W. Frazier was born in Marion, South Carolin on March 10, 1934 to the late Joseph and Theresa Frazier. He was called from labor to rest one day after his 89th birthday March 11, 2023. He moved to New Have, Connecticut in 1942 after the death of his mother while his father served in the military. His father remarried to Rosa Smalls and Joseph moved back to Marion, South Carolina in 1947 with his father and stepmother.

Joseph completed his education and graduated from Marion County Training School in 1953. After her graduated, he moved back to Connecticut where he lived for over 50 years. He worked for ARA Food Service for many years and from there he worked for the State of Connecticut’s Department of Corrections for 10 years and retired in 1997. Joseph drove school buses for special needs students of Marion from 2001-2007. He was elected to Marion City Council on 2013 and served until the Lord call him home.

Joseph joined and Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks fo the World in 1958 and worked his way up to become Grand Esteem Lecturing Knight Emeritus, one of the highest positions in Elkdom. He also served s Burial Fund Commissioner. Upon returning home he joined the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Choir.

Joseph was married to Marlena McMillan for a short time. He then married Bettie Frazier who is now deceased. On August 2, 1992 Joseph married Mary Frazier. In 1997, Jospeh and Mary moved to Marion, SC after their retirements.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife; Mary Frazier, 4 children; Jospeh Robinson (Clara) of North Haven, CT; Lori Frazier of New Have, CT., Thomas Jackson of Marion, SC and Edmund Jackson of Hew Haven, CT. 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, a special adopted grandchild; Kelly Rush and a host of relatives, family and friends.

He is predeceased in death by two children; Mary Ellen Frazier and Rory Frazier, two brothers; Roosevelt Frazier and Henry Frazier.
