~ Obituary ~

"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was ;and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it."   Ecclesiastes 12:7

Johnny William Lester was born on December 31,1947, in Marion, South Carolina, to the late Lucious Lester and Geraldine Eaddy Lester. He departed this life on August 18, 2020, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.

Johnny was affectionately known amongst his family as “Pappy”. His early religious training was done at Springville United Methodist Church in Marion, South Carolina. His elementary and high school education were received in both Marion, South Carolina, and Durham, North Carolina. Johnny enlisted in the United States Army on January 3, 1969. During his service to his country, he became a part of the 82nd Airborne Division where he jumped out of airplanes and was afforded the opportunity to travel around the world. After his honorable discharge in 1974, Johnny moved to New York City where he worked as a security guard for many years.

Johnny was a quiet soul with a servant's heart and did his best to take care of others. He was able to care for his step-mother until her death. After she passed away, he moved to Marion, South Carolina. While in Marion, he was able to help take care of his Auntie Mae until she passed away. He moved to Reevesville, South Carolina, after the death of his beloved Aunt. Johnny was then able to be there to help in the rehabilitation of his Auntie Cora, who was in the process of recuperating from a very serious car accident. He remained with his Auntie Cora and Uncle Rye until he became ill. Johnny was also active in the services at Mt.Pisgah Baptist Church in Reevesville.

Johnny was a quiet soul with a big heart and always left an impression on anyone he came in contact with. Johnny's memories will be cherished by his brother, Lucious Lester III(Kim) of Durham, NC; sister Avis Martin(Steve) of Durham, NC;six aunts, Sophia Evans of Wilmington,DE; Catherine Lester of Pee Dee,SC; Cora Syphrett (Rye)of Reevesville,SC; Helen Lester of Bronx,NewYork; Shirley Halley (Ted) of Camden,SC; and Ruth Mae Lester of Marion,SC; and a host of loving cousins and friends.

Johnny will be greatly missed and we shall never forget his courageous fight to endure, never complaining, always smiling and pressing forward. However, God chose to free his son and take him to a place of pure love. He is at peace now and the Heavens must have delighted in his coming.
