Bro. John Quenlen Duncan aka Dr. Elder Michael Fogan, 56, departed this life Monday March 25, 2019 in Marion County. He was the husband of Dr. Deloris Duncan "Fogan" and the father of John Q. Duncan II. He was the pastor of New Beginnings Temple of Praise. You may visit the family at 536 Peachtree Rd. Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Door of Hope Christian Church, Marion on Monday April 1, 2019 at 1:00 pm. He will be laid to rest in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins.

~ Obituary ~

John Quenlen Duncan, I, the son of the late Esther Mae Fogan-Duncan and James McGill was born December 30, 1962 in Marion, SC.  His great-grandmother the late Ida Mae Fogan reared him. On Monday, March 25, 2019 at MUSC Marion, our Father called our loved one home.

Pastor Duncan stated ‘:to know the will of God is the greatest knowledge, to find the will of the LORD is the greatest discovery, and to do the will of the LORD JESUS CHRIST is the greatest achievement you will ever encounter. Then you can let GOD open the way to new BLESSINGS THAT HE HAS IN STORE FOR US.’ “Living for God is a lifestyle”’. Pastor Duncan preached and taught how to live a Christian life with victory in Jesus Christ. He was a humble man that was always accessible and had a genuine love for all people. His last sermon he preached was entitled “Everyone Can’t Go Where God Wants to Take You”.

John was educated in the public schools of Marion County. He is a 1981 graduate of Marion High School. Upon completion of high school he attended Morris College, for two years, and did further studies at Coker College, for two years. He also, attended Tabernacle Bible Institute and Pee Dee Bible College and Seminary. He earned a Doctor of Theology from Grace Theological Seminar. 

John met and married the former Deloris Alford of Hartsville, SC on September 17, 1988 and to that union they were blessed with one son, who is their heart: Quenlen aka “Q”.

John accepted his call to the ministry and preached his initial sermon on March 13, 1983, and was license by the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Rev. Henry McGill, Jr. He served as pastor of Sandy Grove Holiness Church for 13 years. After hearing the voice of the Lord, he birthed New Beginnings Temple of Praise, a Christian congregation established on Nov. 6, 2006. He was a retiree of Marion County Schools. He was a member of the Marion Area Ministerial Alliance (MAMA), and served as Board Commissioner for Trinity Behavior Board, and many other civic organizations. He has received numerous awards and citations for his work in public service.

John’s memories will be cherished and forever remembered by his loving and devoted wife Deloris A. Duncan of the home; one son: John Quenlen Duncan ll (Jennifer Sanderson) of New Hampshire; one special daughter: Fateemah Muhammad of South Carolina; his step-father Thomas Duncan of New Jersey; mother-in-law:Lillian three sisters: Lillian Fogan of New York, Tracey Graham and Cynthia Hart both of Georgia; four brothers: Willie (Barbara) Duncan and  Thomas Duncan both of New Jersey, Fred Fogan of Illinois and Christopher Bellamy of Georgia; two brothers-in-law: Issiah Alford of Washington D.C.; Kenneth (Carrie) Alford of Hartsville, SC; two sisters-in-law: Beulah Ann (Ronald)Mumford of Hartsville, SC; Jacqueline Washington of Hartsville, SC; four uncles: William McGill, McArthur McGill, Samuel McGill and Jackie McGill; special cousins: Jacqueline Jackson-McGill, Claretta Nelson, Linda Davis, Cynthia Harps-Legette, Elaine Samuels, Sabrina Swinney and Linda Wall;two god-daughters: Vanessa Lemon and Nikki Lemon. Two special grand-daughters: Kaitlyn-Marie Zellars and Alexandria McClellan.  He had a host of special sisters: Betty Sue Brunson, Jacqueline Crawford, Deborah Calhoun, Wood Ann Ellis, Elista Hendley-Smith, Donnis Graham, Barbara Daniels, Barbara Dickens and a host of  Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends and Community Colleagues.
