~ Obituary ~

On Saturday morning, February 27, 2021, our Father God, in His infinite wisdom collected the sweet spirit of our beloved Janie Ruth Gerald-Hendley. Her faith was sufficient. Her course was complete. Her job well done.

Janie Ruth Gerald-Hendley was born on January 24, 1928 in Mullins, South Carolina to the late George and Albertine Davis Gerald.

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Beulah United Methodist Church and was a lifelong active member until her health began to fail. Janie Ruth loved her church and loved to sing. She started singing as a young child in the adult church choir alongside her mother.

Later on in life she sang on the Beulah United Methodist Church Senior Choir. She had a sweet melodious soprano voice. You could hear her voice above all others. Two of her favorite songs were “Oh, How Lovely” and “Even Me Lord”.

Janie Ruth was a proud graduate of Palmetto High School and Claflin College University. While at Claflin she majored in Elementary Education. She taught for several years in Horry County Public Schools and retired from Lake View Elementary School in Dillon County.

Janie’s favorite thing to do was ride around and shop. All you had to say was, “Let’s” and she would automatically finish the sentence, put on her shoes and grab her purse.

Janie Ruth was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Harry Oscar Hendley. To this union two children Carey & Anthony were born.

Janie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harry, her daughter Carey, mother Albertine, father George “G.G.” and sisters Sarah Jackson, Ethel Boatwright, Agnes Brandyburg, and Cherrie Reaves.

Janie Ruth’s passing leaves a vacancy in the hearts of those she loved and those who loved her. Her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her son Anthony Hendley of Mullins, SC, her daughter Laura “Jackie” (Samuel) Carter of Beaufort, SC, three grandchildren, one great grand-daughter, two sisters-in-laws. Orgae Mae Johnson and Laura Hendley, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family Mother Janie Ruth Hendley of in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Hendley family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions.
