Isadora Sams Obituary

Mother Isadora Sams was 94, and departed this life Tuesday January 26, 2021 in Marion County. She was the mother of Mary Lewis, Betty Bethea and James Robert Sams. You may visit the family at 4813 Aloha Drive, Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Sunday January 31, 2021 at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins. Services will be live streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

On Tuesday January 26, 2021, our beloved Mother, Grand Mother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend Isadora Spivey Sams departed this life to be with the Lord. Isadora was born on February 6, 1927 to the late Joe and Curlener Spivey of Marion County. Isadora was also educated in Marion County and at a young age she joined Singletary AME Church.

In 1941 Isadora married Charlie W. Sams and to this union four children was born Mary, Louise, Betty and James.

 In 1962 Isadora relocated to Paterson, NJ where she supervised at the Valley Hospital in Ridgeland, NJ for many years. After 10 Years she moved back to Marion, SC where she retired as a caregiver. In 1974 she joined Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess until her health failed. Isadora is a member of the Mt Mariah Eastern Star and the Star of Bethlehem tent # 30.

Isadora (Momma Dora) was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. She was caring and a nurturer to many. Isadora enjoyed many hobbies like quilting, fishing, cooking, crocheting, crossword puzzles and reading her Bible. Momma loved her family and wanted them all to be close. 

Preceding her in death her Father and Mother the late Joe Spivey and Curlener Foxworth Spivey, her Husband of 69 years Deacon Charlie W. Sams, One daughter Louise Sams Neil, two grandchildren Velicia R. Bethea and Shawn Legette, three son-in-laws Leval Lewis, Authur Neil, and Houston Bethea Sr. and one grandson- inlaw Henry  Finklea and 10 sisters Alice, Lunar, Helen, Inez, Mary, Lena, Emma Georgia, Gladys and Francine. 

She leaves to cherish fond memories her three children Mary C Lewis and James R Sams of Marion, SC and Betty Bethea of Meriden, Ct. 14 Grandchildren Debra Finklea of the home, Cynthia, Bennett, Gregory, Marvin, Sheila, Houson Jr, Authur, Robert, Monique, Charles, Reggie, Jessica and James Jr. 28 Great grands and 25 Great Great grands. Isadora had one Godson Charles A. Bethea one Special nephew/brother Henry Dow and host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family of Mother Isadora Sams in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Sams family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
