Herbert Lee Davis Sr.

Bro. Herbert Lee Davis Sr., 73, departed this life on Thursday December 6, 2018 in Charleston, SC. He was the father of Demetra Davis and Timothy Davis.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the St. James AME Church, Ariel Crossroads Saturday December 15, 2018 at 12:00 noon. He will be laid to rest in the St. James AME Church Cemetery.

~ Obituary ~

On April 9, 1945, GOD saw fit to give us a great son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He watched over his beloved child and allowed him to bless others that he met. He did such good works here on earth that GOD decided to call him home on December 6, 2018.

Herbert Lee Davis, Sr. passed away at Roper Hospice Cottage in N Charleston, SC. He attended the schools in Horry County and was a graduate of Whittemore High School in Aynor, SC.

After high school, Herbert was a teachers’ aide and drove school buses. He met and married the love of his life, Berlene Virginia Hemingway. To this union they added six children. They were married 42 years until she was called home in 2008. They lived in Marion, SC and NY until they settled in Pompano Beach, FL.

There Herbert worked for Southern Sanitation as a Heavy Machine Operator for years. In his spare time, Herbert enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and fishing. They lived there for 35 years until he returned to Marion, SC to care for his parents.

To cherish his loving memory, Herbert leaves four children: Demetra Davis of N Charleston, SC, Timothy Davis (Sumi) of Jacksonville, FL, Anthony Davis (Wynetta) of Jacksonville, FL, Monica Davis of N Charleston, SC; ten grandchildren: Diandra Roberts (Bo) of Latta, SC, Dominique Davis of Ft Laud., FL, Teiesha Griffin of Pompano Beach, FL, Devin Davis (Latonya) of N Charleston, SC, Prennis Stanley (MyChayla) of N Charleston, SC, Deja and Mariah (Tim and Sumi), Ma’Kayla and Ma’Kai (Monica), De’Ontae Joseph (Anthony and Wynetta); three great-grandchildren: Messiah (Dominique), Kynnidi and McKenzi (Teiesha); he is survived by two brothers, David C Davis (Joyce) of Pompano Beach, FL, and Jerome  Davis (Patricia) of Marion, SC; and one sister, Annie Ruth Banks (Kenneth) of Jacksonville, FL,; three sisters-in-law: Azalee (Thomas(deceased)) Spartanburg, SC, Ola Jean (James(deceased)) Pompano Beach, FL, Mattie Weston (Roger) NYC, NY and two brothers-in-law, George Hemingway of Newark, NJ and David Green (Eula Mae(deceased)) of Holly Hill, SC and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving friends and family.
