~ Gwendolyn G. Jackson Obituary ~

Gwendolyn Gladys Miles Jackson departed this life on October 28, 2022 at the age of 71. She was born on July 31, 1951 in Marion, South Carolina to the late Hubert and Gladys Miles. She grew up in Marion County and graduated from Johnakin High School. She moved to Brooklyn, NY where she began work in retail at Rainbow. Her relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, began at an early age at Bethel United Methodist Church. She made sure she had a church home wherever she resided. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in both Bridgeport, CT and Landover, MD. She joined Weeping Willow Baptist Church in 2011 where she remained  as a Church Mother and Sunday School Secretary until she transitioned to her eternal resting place.

Gwen met the love of her life, Richard Jackson, in 1967 and married on May 15, 1971 in Marion, SC. She moved to Bridgeport, CT with her husband and began her career in Dentistry as a Dental Assistant where she remained for over 30 years. Richard and Gwen relocated to Bowie, MD in 1992 and remained in Maryland until they retired in 2009. They enjoyed the retired life back where it all started in Marion, SC. Her quiet yet strong demeanor and sweet yet feisty spirit will truly be missed. Gwen was a woman who was true to her word, didn’t hold back from the truth, and was highly respected by all who met her.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Edna Berry and Katie Brown.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Reverend Richard Jackson; one son, Shekeh “Ty” (Erika) Jackson; one daughter, Tamika (Ernest) Gaskins; 7 grandchildren (Kaylaah, Giovante, Morgan, Anaya, Israel, Selah, and Heaven); 4 great granddaughters (Monet, My’Lee, Paris, and Theorie aka Lollipop); 2 godchildren, Chateau Jackson and Eldorado Anderson; a special nephew, Andre (Lynn) Bynum, 3 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and a host of the most amazing nieces, nephews, family and friends.
