Gonza Devasco Tennie

Brother Gonza D. Tennie was 53, and departed this life Wednesday October 26, 2022 in Morrow, GA. He was the son of Mary Tennie. You may visit the family at 2734 Oakridge Rd. Gresham.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Soul Chapel AME Church on Saturday November 5, 2022 at 11:00 am. Services will be live-streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page. 

~ Obituary ~

Mr. Gonza Devasco Tennie, affectionately known as Wenchie, was born in Marion, South Carolina, on March 18, 1969, to Mary and the late Gonza L. Tennie. Gonza departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, in Jonesboro, GA. At an early age, he affiliated with Soul Chapel A.M.E. Church, Gresham, South Carolina. He graduated from Britton’s Neck High School Class of 1987. After graduating, he worked as a security guard for the Marion County Detention School. Later, he became a truck driver for over 25 years until his health declined.  

Wenchie had a passion for cars, money, fashion and was known for his flirting and comical ways. His favorite football team, The New York Giants. 

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mary and David Gause, paternal grandparents, Willie and Mary P. Tennie, and nephew Casey D. Dozier, Jr.

Those left to cherish his memories include his loving mother, Mary L. Tennie, and his sister Charlene (Casey) Dozier of Gresham, SC. Two nieces, Shanecka Fortune and Stasia Dozier of Gresham, SC; two great-nephews, Jayden McFadden and Tyler Watson of Gresham, SC. Two cousins were raised as his brothers, Shawn Tennie and Frankie Graves. Four special cousins, Jemel Gause, who served as his caregiver, Gean “Guy Jean” Richardson, Paul Gause and Sedrin Rogers; two close aunts, Emma Sams and Bonnie Tennie. And a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.

The family of Brother Gonza D. Tennie in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state, and local community,  will hold a 100 person or less funeral service for their loved one with interment immediately following. While the Tennie family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
