George Lester Obituary

Bro. George William Lester was 52, and departed this life Sunday January 10, 2021 in Florence County. He was the husband of Carissa Lester.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Tuesday January 19, 2021 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest at the Florence National Cemetery Wednesday January 20, 2021 at 1:00 pm.

George William Lester, born April 29, 1968 in Wichita, KS. He was born to the late William and Arcelia Lester. He was the 2nd of five children, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. One proceeded him in death Nicole Yvette Lester.

At an early age George was introduced to Christ at Springville United Methodist Church, Marion, SC. He attended the public schools in Marion, SC, and a graduate with the class of 1986 (Marion High School). After High School George joined the United States Army, where he served eight faithful years and was honorably discharged in 1994. After returning home he attended Coker College graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor in Social Work. He was employed at Blumenthal Mills (until they closed), Pee Dee Coalition, Billy Hardee Home for Boys at the time of death he was employed with Lutheran Services Carolinas.

While serving in Stuttgart, Germany he met the love of his life Corissa O’Neal Lester, they united in holy matrimony in 1993. To this union five children born; Devonte, Sierra, Aaron, Jace (Marion, SC) and Alexis Alexander (Fort Worth, TX).

George was always willing to lend a helping hand and opened arms to anyone. George favorite saying was, “I don’t meet no strangers!” He would always greet you with a lasting smile and filled the room with joy and laughter. He was a die-hard Prince fan, a strong pillar of the community and will be missed by all who love and adored him.

He leaves to cherish is memories his wife, children, 5 grandchildren, his siblings Anthony (Regina) Lester, Keith (Keisha) Lester and Elfretta (Herman) Gauthier. Also, two special cousins/siblings Chad and Jokima Proctor. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, extended family and three special friends Glenn Brantley, Greg Neil, and Bishop John Brown.  

 

The family of Brother George Lester, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state, and the local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Lester family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
