~ Life Reflections ~

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, Believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye will be also.” John 14:1-3

Ernestine Moody Martin was born to the late Bessie Moody on March 14, 1952. She departed this life after a brief illness on January 19, 2021 at the Lake City Community Hospital in Lake City, South Carolina.

Ernestine was preceded in death by her mother Bessie Moody and sister, the late Dorothy Sanders Wilson. She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Marion Martin of Florence, South Carolina on September 2, 1990. She was a member of the Greater Highway Church of Christ in Marion, South Carolina, where she was also baptized by the late Bishop R.F. Davis, Sr.

Ernestine was educated in the public school of Marion County and after working through significant personal challenges, worked diligently to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University. Ernestine later taught school for a number of years in the Darlington County Public School System.

Ernestine leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved brother David Moody of Marion, South Carolina, a very special niece Wendy Moody-Nichols of Marion, South Carolina and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She had one special friend Mary Rainey of Florence, South Carolina.

When I think of Aunt Ernestine, I am reminded of a line from a popular poem by Langston Hughes which says,, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair.” Ernestine had challenges, but she persevered. She was somewhat reserved in her interactions with others, but she was there and she was consistent. She was an avid reader and wonderful cook. She died to help others as she could. Who among us wouldn’t like to have these qualities?
