Elista Mae Davis

Mother Elista Mae Williams Davis, 83, departed this life on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. She was the mother of Brigitte Davis Toomer, Gregory K. Davis, Michael Davis, Harold Davis Jr. and Stephan Davis. You may visit the family at 350 Foxboro Rd. Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, Marion,  Sunday October 27, 2019 at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins.

~ Obituary ~

Elista Mae Williams Davis was born on June 4, 1936 in Marion, SC to the late Jethro and Alice Fling Williams. Elista Mae came to her final rest on October 16, 2019. Elista Mae was the tenth of eleven children. Her siblings who preceded her in death were Emanuel Williams, Ladson Williams, Roosevelt Williams, Mardenia Richardson, Alexzenia Paige, David H. Williams, Jethro Williams and Clarence Williams. 

Elista Mae attended and graduated from Marion High School in 1954. She briefly attended Allen University in Columbia, SC until she was courted by and entered into holy matrimony with Harold Augustus Davis, Sr. on December 29, 1955. Thereafter, they moved to Newark, NJ.

In 1966, Elista Mae and Harold Sr. returned to Marion with their growing family. She began her nursing career with Marion Memorial Hospital in 1969, returned to school and obtained her LPN certification in 1972. Elista Mae retired from Marion Memorial Hospital in 1997. During her career, she also lovingly cared for her husband and her six children. 

Elista Mae was baptized in the late sixties and became a member of Mt. Olive Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She dedicated herself to working in the church and serving in the community. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23.  Elista Mae’s hobbies included reading the Bible, visiting family and friends, working in the garden and sewing.

Her daughter, Kimberly Davis Wright of Columbia, SC, preceded her in death in 2016. To cherish her memory, she leaves behind the following: her children, Michael Davis of Columbia, SC, Harold Davis Jr. of Philadelphia, PA,  Brigitte (David) Toomer of Columbia, SC, Stephan (Patricia) Davis of Fort Mills, AL and Gregory (Jaroslav) Davis of Los Angeles, CA; her sisters, Evelyn Graves of Philadelphia, PA and Denise Gregg of Marion, SC; her sister-in-laws, Lillie Bell Williams and Dorothy Lee Williams, both of Marion, SC; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a plethora of cousins, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.  She was adored by her family and friends and lived her life according to God’s word. She was truly a blessing and enriched the lives of everyone she touched over the years.
