~ Obituary ~

Dorothy Lee Moultrie Wilson was born on January 31, 1931, in Marlboro County, South Carolina to the late Sampson and Annie Manning Moultrie. Following a long and meaningful life, Dorothy transitioned to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina.

Dorothy grew up in Marlboro County, South Carolina and obtained her education in the public school systems of that county. She later met and married Amos Wilson in 1953, and, to that union, she bore nine children.

She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide at Latimer Middle School in Latta, South Carolina, until her retirement in 1995. She was adored by generations of children who matriculated through Latimer, and she was humbly grateful and excited about serving in the school system, since education was something that she held very close to her kind and caring heart.

Dorothy lived life to the absolute fullest. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a wide range of authors and topics, ranging from religion to black history to legal suspense/thrillers.  She also thoroughly enjoyed tending to her plants and flowers at home. But she was most proud of motherhood, and she cherished her family without ceasing.  She relished attending graduations, weddings, birthday parties, holiday dinners and any other event involving her family; her family's accomplishments brought her a sense of joy and pride, and she loved to witness the happiness and success of her children, grandchildren, and siblings. She was a fiercely loyal, dedicated, loving and caring mother and grandmother, and great-grandmother who put family above everything else.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rachel and Helen, and her brothers James, Sam, and William.  She is also preceded in death by her sons Donald Franklin and Amos, Jr.

Loving and adoring memories of Dorothy will be cherished by her sister, Annie Margaret; her children: son John Wesley Wilson (Anita), daughters Catherine Williams, Dorothy Lorraine, Sylvia Annette Manning, Jacquelyn, Rachel Diane, and Janis Marie; her grandchildren, Christopher Antonio, Donald Reginald, Terrance Lamont (Ashleigh), Karen Delores, Travis LaShaun (Temeka), Alan Martes, John Michael, Winston Jamel, Jason Matthew, Justin Patrick, Ashley Lorraine, Adrian Nathaniel, Jonathan Wesley, and Christian Tyrell; a host of  great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, as well as many other relatives and friends.

Private graveside funeral services will be rendered on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Dillon, South Carolina.  The committal service will immediately follow. In light of the coronavirus pandemic, the family regrets that viewing and visitation will not be permitted. The family extends its sincere appreciation for all thoughts, prayers, and expressions of sympathy during our time of bereavement.  The family also wishes to recognize with special thanks and appreciation Dorothy’s family caregivers: her namesake, daughter Dorothy Lorraine, granddaughter Ashley Lorraine, and grandson Jonathan Wesley, who provided loving care to Dorothy throughout the extent of her Alzheimer’s disease.

The family of Mother Dorothy Moultrie Wilson, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following.
