“TELL THE WORLD THAT JESUS LIVES, TELL THE WORLD THAT JESUS LIVES, AND HE LIVES DOWN IN MY SOUL!
Mother Deloris Davis, who by her siblings and close friends and relatives was affectionately called Dee, was born on June 3 1943 in Chester Pa., and was called into eternal rest by her Lord and Savior on October 20, 2020. She was the second of 5 children, born to the late Bishop R. F., and Reather Graham-Davis. After the death of her mother Reather, Bishop Davis married the late Mother Iolar B. Davis. To that union was born one son, Deloris baby brother, who preceded her in death, Raymond Davis II. Mother Deloris graduated from E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville NC., and later graduated from what was then called Florence SC Practical Nursing Program, and was licensed a Practical Nurse. It is now called McCleod Health. She worked around the clock, even midnight shifts, working her way through school. Her upbringing was in the church, to which she dedicated her entire life. She worked hand in hand, and side by side with her father, the Bishop R. F. Davis, to build the local church of Marion SC, and to build the church organization internationally, starting out in the 1950’s. Mother Davis was the epitome of what church networking was all about during those days. Her many God-given talents were greatly used for taking the lead in church programming, fund raising, the care of the pastor, the care and the vitality of the people and the churches, and extended locally, nationally and then internationally. Much of the foundation of our church auxiliaries stand on the shoulders of her untiring work and dedication. Outside of church during her days and times of work, Mother Deloris was the first nurse to work at the initiation of an alcohol and drug abuse detox program in Florence SC. In Florence SC she was also the first black female to work on the Board of the Department of Social Services, and worked there for 18 years. She was appointed to that position by the then governor of the state of SC. She possessed, taught, and learned nursing skills, but she had a healing touch given to her by the Lord Jesus, which was evident as she nursed so many back to health from their illnesses. She gave personal diagnosis which later was confirmed by the doctors. She used home remedies until those that was sick were able to get their prescriptions filled. In one particular urgent situation, her wise intuition was called upon during a grave sickness of her step-mother, the late Mother Iolar B. Davis. She came to her aid just in time. She also was by the bedside of her father and pastor the Bishop R. F. Davis at his passing. The family could not have made it without her wise advice and counsel through those times.
Mother Deloris Davis’ thunderous voice could be heard as she proclaimed the goodness of Jesus through song. In her church and church organization she started the Gospel Choir, the Youth Choir, the Combined Choir, the District Choir, and the National Choir. She was also a dynamic soloist, known greatly for her rendition of Amazing Grace. Let the record show, Mother Deloris Davis loved her church, and not just that, but the saints of God everywhere adored her for her true sister and motherhood in the Lord Jesus. She loved her family. From the collage of pictures, you can see, especially with her nieces, nephews, and younger cousins, when they were young would all gather around her knee to get sweets and candy, in exchange for a bite on the jaw. She took time to talk to anyone. She helped everyone. She was an anointed woman of God. She will be deeply and sorely missed.
Mother Deloris Davis leaves to cherish one son, Franklin Stephon (Demetrice) Davis Sr of Sumter SC; two grandsons, Franklin Stephon (Towne) Davis II of New London CT, and Brentton Louis Davis and their mother Cherry Washington Davis of Florence SC; three sisters, Rosetta Bettie Clements of Chester Pa, Mildred Davis Butler and Sylvia Davis of Florence SC; one brother Jeremiah (Theresa) Davis of Marion SC; one special first cousin who was just like a brother to her, Bishop Robert G. Johnson of Philadelphia Pa; one brother preceded her in death, her baby brother, Raymond F. Davis II; one god-daughter, Catherine Smith of Florence SC; one god-son, Bishop Kenny Hicks Sr of Florence SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family of Sister Deloris Davis, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following.
