Daniel Bethea Obituary

The family of Brother Daniel Ford Bethea, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Bethea family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.

Brother Daniel Ford Bethea was 67, and departed this life on Monday April 27, 2020 at his home on Marion County. He was the father of Daniel Bethea Jr. and Shemera Bethea. You may visit the family at the home of his brother Frank Bethea at 528 Peachtree Rd. Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Saturday May 2, 2020 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will provide a guest list of 50 or less people.

The Obituary

2 Timothy 4:7-8          I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the LORD, the Righteous JUDGE, will give to me on that Day.

Daniel Ford Bethea, Sr., the fifth child born to the late Hezekiah and Mariah Reed Bethea, was born February 9, 1953.  He departed this life here on earth on Monday, April 27, 2020, at his home in Marion, South Carolina.

Daniel “Dan” attended Terrell’s Bay High School, Centenary, South Carolina, and Marion High School, Marion, South Carolina.

Dan accepted JESUS CHRIST at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Marion, SC. Being a devoted Christian, he relocated to Paterson, New Jersey and continued his Christian journey at Canaan Baptist Church.

He was employed with Darling Truck Company as a truck driver for more than 40 years.  After retiring, Dan moved back home where he re-affiliated with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. A. C. Robinson.  

Dan loved life and he loved people.  He was full of joy and humor.   Dan had an indescribable love for his entire family and friends.  He reached out to talk to his family on a daily basis.  

In addition to his parents, Dan is preceded in death by a sister Flora Ethel Bethea, a son Zekiah Bethea, and two brothers; John Wallace Bethea and Houston Bethea.

Dan was an humble, devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.  Leaving  to cherish his memories are a son; Daniel Tramont Bethea of Fayetteville, NC and a daughter Shemera Danielle Bethea of Paterson, NJ; six grandchildren:  Delonte’ “Trey” Bethea, of Bishopville, SC and Tyranny “TT” Bethea of Raleigh, NC; Zamari Bethea, Zeneya Bethea, and Zamiq Addison all of Bishopville. SC; and Saige Coates of Paterson, NJ.  One great grand-daughter Harmony Bethea.  Two sisters; Glendora Bethea (Charles) Pee of Mullins, SC and Patricia “Bonnie” Bethea of Anderson, SC.  Two brothers, Milton (Gloria) Bethea and James (Carrie) Bethea both of Marion, SC.  One uncle Howard Reed of Mullins, SC; One aunt Burma Reed of Columbia, SC; and numerous loving nieces and nephews whom he loved wholeheartedly; numerous loving cousins, neighbors, and friends. Other special friends are Sherry Chappell, Carl Page, Peggy Wilson, Nathaniel Mathis, Flossie Williamson, Randall Williamson, John Calvin Nelson, James Nelson, and Killer Henry Brown.
