~Obituary~

Charles Wendell Johnson was born on March 23, 1941, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Johnson in the Bronx, New York.  Charlie, as he was affectionately known by all who knew and loved him, made his transition from earth to glory, on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at the MUSC Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina.

Charlie was educated in the New York City public school system.  As an adult, he migrated to the South and began working with Eastern Contractor.  This company was responsible for paving many highways in Marion County.  Charlie was employed with the South Carolina Department of Transportation for over 20 years.  After retiring from the State, he also worked with the Carolinas Hospital System as a Security Guard.

Charlie was a man of few words, quiet and soft spoken.  He enjoyed watching TV and spending time with family, especially his beloved wife, Liz.  Charlie and Liz were always together.  When you saw one, you saw the other.  Their bond and commitment lasted for over 47 years.

Charlie was a member of Pentecostal United Church of Christ, Apostolic in Florence, South Carolina under the leadership of Apostle Fred Graham.  Charlie was a faithful member of the Men’s Sunday School Class, Usher Board, and the Brotherhood Department.

Charlie leaves to cherish his memories:  His loving wife, Lizzie Johnson of the home; one daughter, Sharon (Eric) Warren of Florence, South Carolina; one son, Timothy (Jeannie) Robertson of Marion, South Carolina; His grandchildren:  Maurice Warren and Sharia Warren of Spartanburg, South Carolina; Quinton Davis, Tremayne Robertson, Timar Robertson, Jada Robertson, and Jennifer Robertson, all of Marion, South Carolina and one great-granddaughter, Emery Davis of Columbia, South Carolina.  Two brothers; Jan Johnson of Loganville, Georgia and Paul Johnson of New York; one sister, Nancy Johnson of Manhattan, New York.  Five sisters in laws; Minnie Ruth Comager of Florence, South Carolina; Ivie (William) Barnwell of Charleston, South Carolina; Flora Graves of Gresham, South Carolina; Martha Green of Rains, South Carolina, and Debra Evans of Florence, South Carolina.  Three brothers in laws; Robert (Willie Mae) Evans and Lamar (Bettye) Evans of Marion, South Carolina; Earnest (Joyce) Evans of New York.  He was Uncle Charlie to many nieces and nephews.  Charlie will be greatly missed by his church family and other friends who knew him.
