~ The Obituary ~

“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”    John 11:25-26

Betty Joan Graves was born on July 13, 1951 to the late Johnathan Buster and Lottie Mae Graves in Marion, South Carolina.  She entered eternal rest on Friday, January 22, 2021 at MUSC Florence, SC.

Betty was a 1971 graduate of Rains-Centenary High School.  At an early age, she joined St. Paul Eulonia Baptist Church where she served as missionary and choir member. Betty proclaimed the word of God and her love for God through her actions, songs, and praises. She was not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She was an avid prayer warrior who knew the worth of prayer and knew how to call on the name of Jesus.

Betty was “Nanny” to all her family. She nurtured her younger siblings as if they were her own, then her nieces and nephews and even their children. She was truly the matriarch of the Graves family and everyone looked up to her as such.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Brian Lewis, Johnathan Coby Graves, Barbara Graves, and Cynthia Rowell.

She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories, her children: Anderson Lionel Graves of the home and Lisa Graves of Greenville, SC. Two grandchildren: Jaheim Robinson of Mullins, SC, and Kingston Graves of New York; Two brothers: James (Retha) Graves and Terry (Patricia) Graves of Gresham, SC.  Four sisters: Lucille Johnson and Julia Willis of Gresham, SC; Marlene (Tyrone) Washington and Gwendolyn (Elder David) Brown of Marion, SC; Special sister-in-law: Rachell Taylor of Gresham, SC; Special Niece: Shonda Wilson of Marion, SC; Goddaughter: Terri Grant of Marion, SC; Best Friend: Lnetta Davis of Gresham, SC; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
