~ Obituary ~

The Lord is my Shepherd. Psalm 23:1

Brother Arthur Levern Davis, Sr. of Marion, SC, departed this earthly life on January 5, 2021 at the McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, SC.

Brother Davis was born on December 16, 1940 to Mr. Robert Davis and Mrs. Lena Grant Davis Sanders of Marion County, SC.  He was a 1960 graduate of Terrell’s Bay High School, Centenary, SC.  He was a great football player and received a full football scholarship from South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, SC.  Arthur enjoyed watching sports and was the manager for the T-Sluggers baseball team for many years.

Brother Davis was a very successful business man.  His employment included being a professional truck driver and a sales person for Pee Dee Building Supply in Marion, SC.  Bro. Davis later became the owner and operator of Arthur Davis & Son Construction Company.  He retired from the business, but still continued to help his community members.

Arthur was a peaceful, family man who always had a listening ear.  He received Christ as his personal Savior and joined Greater Singletary AME Church, Marion, SC, where he was an active member and served on many boards.  Bro. Davis’ favorite saying was, “Do what is right.”

Brother Davis met and married Linda C. Bellamy and to this union four children were born.  Even though it was just the two of them at home, Brother Davis and his wife Linda would often have prayer meetings and bible study.

Arthur is preceded in death by his wife Linda C. Bellamy; his parents: Robert Davis, Lena Grant Davis Sanders and stepfather Rev. Dr. Tilliman Sanders, Jr.; his son: Arthur Levern Davis, Jr.; his daughter: Apostle Regina McNeil (01-09-21); his sister: Reather Mae Davis Sparks; his brother-in-laws: James Watson, Sr. and Wilma Godbolt; and his nephew: Dwayne W. Sparks.

Arthur leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories, his loving daughters: LaDonna (Terry) Sloan and Athiea Peterson both of Hope Mill, NC; eight grandchildren: stepmother Mrs. Bernice G. Sanders of Little River, SC; four sisters: Rev. Mildred S. Watson, Sheila D. Sanders, Beverly Godbolt, and Lillie Ann Sanders all of Marion, SC; sister-in-law: brother-in-law: Joe L. Sparks of Marion, SC; Godson: Levon Evans; special friends: Lester Elleby and Dennis Weaver; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The family of Father Arthur Levern Davis, in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state and local community, has decided to hold a private 50 people or less, family only, funeral service for their loved one with private interment immediately following. While the Davis family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly and those with chronic  health conditions.
