Addie Legette Obituary

Sister Addie L. Legette was 65, and departed this life Sunday July 24, in Marion County.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery on Monday August 1, 2022 at 11:00 am.

Addie L. Legette, age 65, was born December 14th, 1956, in Marion, SC to Pastor Clemson Sr. and Mother Janye W. Legette, who both preceded her in death. She departed this life on July, 24th, 2022 at home after a long-term illness. 

Addie L. Legette attended school in Newark, NJ and graduated from Arts High School in 1974. During her high school years, she was a member of the National Honor Society and received multiple scholarships. Driven, and destined to succeed, she further her education and in 1978 received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Holyoke College, in South Hadley, MA, and a master's degree from Duke University, Durham, NC in 1982. After continued hard work and dedication she graduated from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and then became known as Addie L. Legette, M.D. Her specialty was obstetrics and gynecology, and she practiced at Rose M. Singer Rikers in New York City.

Outside of the medical field Addie L. Legette, M.D. was an artist who painted beautiful portraits and scenery that gave viewers a glimpse into how she saw beauty in the world. She also enjoyed writing, cooking, and fashion design. She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was a member of Harvest Time Evangelistic Center where she shared a close friendship with Pastor Eartha Edwards.

Addie L. Legette leaves to cherish her memories, her brother, Clemson Legette II of Marion, her sister, Jacquelyn (Raymond) Russell, of North Carolina, one niece and nephew, Rachel and Stephen Russell, one great nephew, Cairo Gaiten, one aunt, and a host of cousins and friends.

The family of Sister Addie L. Legette in consideration of the current health crisis facing our world, nation, state, and local community,  will hold a 100 person or less funeral service for their loved one with interment immediately following. While the Legette family would love to be surrounded by your presence, they acknowledge the health risks to family, church members, friends, and particularly to those who are most vulnerable to this disease, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions. What the family needs most at this time are your prayers and understanding. Thank you for your concern and cooperation.
