Steve Bethea Obituary

Sgt. Steve Anderson Bethea was 58 and departed this life Sunday December 1, 2019 in Temple, Texas. He was the husband of Wilma Bethea and the father of four daughters: Ashley, Stephanie, Amy and Janelle, and two sons: Steve Jr. and Brandon. You may visit the family at the home of his sister Jeanette Campbell 418 Walker Ct. Latta, SC.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 1:00pm at Everbee Baptist Church in the Smithboro Community, Mullins, SC. 

Burial will be Monday, December 9, 2019 at 11:00am in the Florence National Cemetery, Florence, SC.

Sgt. Steve Anderson Bethea Sr. was born in Mullins, South Carolina on May 11, 1961 to the late James David Lewis “JD” and Albertine Bethea. He was lovingly raised by his mother,  Isabell Phillips. 

 

He was educated in the Lake View Public Schools, Lake View, South Carolina and graduated from Lake View High in the class of 1979.  He enlisted in the United States Army in February of 1985 and served until July of 1991. While stationed in Germany in 1988, he met a fellow soldier, PFC Wilma Marie Tingle, a native of Louisiana. The two were married on October 11, 1989 in Marion, South Carolina.

 

As a child, Steve worshiped with his family at the Everbee Baptist Church in the Smithboro Community.  He later became a member of Believer’s Worship Center in Little Rock, South Carolina under the leadership of Bishop Calvin Pompey where he received his conversion. 

 

He was employed with the Dillon County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy for fifteen years and eight of those years as the School Research Officer at Dillon Middle School, Dillon, South Carolina. One of his proudest moments was taking a picture at the Middle School with (then candidate for President) Barak Obama. He had a great love for children, and his passion was mentoring youth to be respectful and to always do their best.

 

Steve loved sitting on his porch watching the rain and spending time with his family.

 

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother: Steven Bethea; his Sister: Rose Mary Bethea and his brothers: Aaron Phillips and Curtis Phillips.

  

Steve leaves to cherish his loving memories ~ his wife of thirty years: Wilma Marie Tingle Bethea; his children: Janelle Bethea (Mike)  Pizarro of Stroudburg, PA,  Amy Duncan of Orangeburg, SC,  Ashley (Reshard) Tingle of Killeen, TX,  Steve A. (La’Porshia) Bethea Jr., Brandon (Sasha) Bethea, and Stephanie Bethea all of Latta, SC; eight grandchildren: A’jhari Jackson, Stevaris Bethea, Stephon  Bethea, twins: Elijah and Malchai Pizarro, Stevontae Bethea, Amirah Bessent, Triston Tingle; a god-daughter: Treasure Burgess; three brothers: Levern (Eunice) Bethea of Georgia, Pete (Pat) Phillips of Maryland, Dock Bethea Jr. of Washington, DC; two sisters: Jeanette Campbell of Latta, SC and Golder Strother of Maryland; two brothers-n-law: Levi (Linda) Tingle of Sulphur, LA and T. George (Andie) Tingle of Axtell, TX and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
