Mother Sarah Ruth Doughty 80, departed this life on Saturday July 1, 2017 at her home in Sellers, SC. She was the mother of Geneva Smart, Delores Shaw, Jerry Doughty, Joyce Johnson, Cynthia Nichols, Sylvia Lanier and Robert Doughty Jr. You may visit the family at 1003 Bass Mill Rd. Sellers, SC.

Funeral services are scheudled for 12:00noon Friday July 7, 2017 at the Weston Chapel AME Church, Latta, SC. She will be laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery Monsoleum, Dillon, SC.

Mrs. Sarah Ruth Doughty affectionately known as Ma, Momma Y Granny, was born March 31, 1937 in Latta, South Carolina to the late Earl Godbolt Sr. and the late Gladys Bethea entered eternal rest on July 1, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
 

Sarah received her education in the Latta School System, where she met and married her childhood sweetheart Robert Doughty Sr. To this union eight children was born. They relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey where they became members of Monumental Baptist Church.

Sarah was a dedicated nurse’s assistant at St. Mary’s Hospital in Hoboken, New Jersey for 31 years where she was as active member of Local Union 1199J. Upon retiring they later returned to Latta South Carolina where they joined Weston Chapel AME Church. Sarah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Sarah was predeceased in death by her Sister (Grace Smith) and five brothers Daniel, Thomas, William, Robert and James Bethea of New Jersey. Also Reno Brown, Dora Godbolt and Clarence Godbolt.

Sarah also leaves to cherish her memory two sister-in-law’s Ruth Bethea and Irene Doughty, seven children Geneva Smart (Shelly, deceased), Jerry Doughty, Cynthia Nichols (Eugene), Sylvia Lanier (Henry Roger), Joyce Johnson (Lester), Delois Shaw (William) and Robert Doughty Jr, (Pamela). Sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren, special granddaughters Ms. Shirley and Ms. Pat: Earl Godbolt Jr., Curtis (Helen) Godbolt, Alfonse (Corrine) Godbolt, Sylvester (Pearl) Godbolt, Lillie Walker, Mealie Sue Huggins, Betty Campbell and Carol E. Williams: and a host of family and friends. Special friends John D and Chyme Landing.
