Ruth Catskill Mitchell

Sister Ruth Catskill Mitchell, 71, departed this life Wednesday September 11, 2019 in Florence County. She was the significant other of Ray Crawford.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel Sunday September 22, 2019 at 3:00 pm.

~ Obituary ~

Ruth entered this world on September 14, 1947. Born to Theodore, (Ruth) Mitchell in the Bronx, NY. She graduated from William Howard-Taft High School in 1962.  She was blessed with a son, Charles Floyd Carswell, Jr. on September 25, 1967 fathered by Charles Floyd Carswell Sr. in Manhattan, NY. Ruth worked as a post office mail handler from 1968-1972.

She herself eventually relocated from Brooklyn to Marion, SC in 1988. Not long after she fell ill and was forced to stop working. However, that did not stop her loving, her kindness, her caring, her giving nor her faith. She founded a new and loving relationship in Marion July 27th, 1994 and lived the rest of her life in a loving and righteous way. 

She is survived by her longtime companion of 25 years Ray Crawford of Marion, SC. Her son Charles (Jill Shapiro) Carswell Jr , one grandson Jonah Charles Carswell-Shapiro (11) all of Portland, Maine and one granddaughter Demitria Carswell (18) also of Maine , one stepson Raymond Darryl Crawford IV of Columbia, SC. Sister-in-law Jan Platt of Mullins, SC. Cousin-in-law Doris Brown of Rains, SC., Friends Charlie (Angelina) Davis, Jr. of Farmville, VA. Deborah Jackson of NY, NY. Harriette Zeigler of Brooklyn, NY. Also Christina Brunson of Centenary, SC and a host of other friends,  brother and sister-in-laws, cousins, aunts, uncles.
