Sis. Ruby Lee Puryear 70, departed this life on Thursday July 13, 2017 in the Florence Rehab Nursing Center. She was the mother of Jackie Reaves, Cynthia Phillips and Darrell Lee. You may visit the family at 801 McGee St. Marion. Funeral services  are scheduled for 11:00am Tuesday July 18 at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, Marion. Mrs. Ruby Lee Puryear will be laid to rest in the Florence National Cemetery, Florence, SC.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day.” I Timothy 4:7-8

Today, we salute the life and celebrate the home going of one who lived among us and enriched our lives. On Thursday July 13, 2017, Ruby Lee Puryear departed this earthly life peacefully at the Florence Rehabitation and Nursing Center, Florence, South Carolina after a long illness.

Ruby was born on May 20, 1947 to the late Pearline and Gerome Meares, she was the fourth of seven children; one preceded her in death. Ruby received her education at Johnakin High School, Marion, South Carolina. Later, after moving tp Baltimore, Maryland she continued her education in the medical field working at Harbor View Inn Nursing Center as a Nursing Assistant until she retired. Ruby loved music, dressing up and being the center of attention.

Ruby was a faithful member of Eternal Life Baptist Church, where Elder John X. Gamble is the pastor. While living in Baltimore, she met and married her husband, Josephus Puryear who preceded her in death. After her health began to fail, she moved back to Marion, South Carolina to be close to her family.

Ruby leaves to cherish fond and loving memories~ one son: Darrell (Wanda) Lee of Florence, SC; two daughters: Jacqueline Reave of Winston Salem, NC and Cynthia (Carl) Phillips of Florence, SC; one brother: Pernell (Evangelist Evelyn) Meares; four sister; Helen (Curtis) Godbolt, Polly (Eddie) Gerald all of Marion, SC., Daisy (George) Watson of Alabama and Earnestine Reaves of Dover, NJ; one aunt; Alice Nichols of Marion, SC; six grandchildren: Dylan Phillips, Zimere Phillips, Zyrea Phillips. Darell Lee, Ishia Lee all of Florence South Carolina and Joya Reaves of Winston Salem , NC.; a devoted and special friend; Leonard Dorsey of Baltimore, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors, other relatives and friends.
