Mattie McClellan Obituary

Mother Mattie McClellan, 91, departed this life Thursday April 11, 2019 at her home in Marion. You may visit the family at 2939 Cherrydale Rd. Marion. She was the mother of Sallie Mae Page, Ella Jean Mason, Eloise Mullins, Elaster Wayne McClellan, Franklin McClellan, Edward McClellan, Sherrin Brooks and Glenda Nichols, sister of Ella Mae Williamson.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the New Hope Holiness Church, Rains, Thursday April 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

~ Obituary ~

Mattie “Matt” McClellan was born on August 25, 1927 to French and Sally Gerald, who both proceeded her in death. She was educated in the public schools of Marion County. 

Mattie began working at a very young age on her family’s farm and built many long time friends. She joined New Hope Holiness Church and served as a member of the choir for many years. 

Mattie was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Thomas McClellan Sr. on August 19,1947 and to this union eleven children were born. 

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband Thomas McClellan Sr., son Thomas McClellan Jr; daughters; Bonnie Crawford and Mattie Williams; six siblings and their spouses, and two son-in-laws. 

Mattie leaves to cherish fond and loving memories of her sister Ella Mae Williamson of Rains SC, Eight children Sallie Page, Ella Jean Mason, Eloise (Billy) Mullins SC, Elater “Wayne” (Margie) McClellan, Franklin (Betty) McClellan, Edward (Linda) McClellan, Sherrin Brooks all of Marion County, and Glenda (Reginald) Nichols of Fargo, ND. Two sister-in-laws; Justina Mae Gerald and Carolyn Gerald both of Washington D.C. she also leaves 67 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and 13 greats-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Three friends that she loved dearly Alice Nichols, Janie Mae Brown both of Marion SC and Myrtle White of Mullins SC. And last but definitely not least Mattie adored and loved the spiritual relationship she had with her Pastor Alphonso Toomer and first lady Carol Toomer.
