Mother Mary Bennett, 88, departed this life Thursday September 27, 2018 in Marion County. She was the sister of Annie Bethea. You may visit the family at 456 Gilchrist St. Marion.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Bethel AME Church, Britton's Neck Sunday October 7, 2018 at 3:00 pm.She will be laid to rest in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins.
Mary Dorethea Bennett, known as Mamie, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, September 27, 2018 home with her side in Marion, South Carolina.
Mary was born Friday, April 4, 1930 in Williamsburg County. She was one of six children born to the late Joe Nathan and Hattie Miller- Bennett.
Mary received her formal education through Marion County Training School in 1948. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. She also attended the Community College of Philadelphia and earned an Associate in Arts degree. She received received several degrees and certificates in her lifetime. She was employed for 33 years for the City of Philadelphia Water Department. Mary loved to travel and see the world. She was the coordinator for the history of the Miller-Graves family reunion.
Sister Mary accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She was a member of St. Matthew AME Church of Philadelphia, PA. She served on the stewardess board and class leader. When she returned to South Carolina she re-joined Bethel AME Church. She served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving father: Joe Nathan Bennett; loving mother: Hattie Miller Bennett; two brothers: Charles Bennett and Alfonso Bennett; three sisters: Margaret Wilson, Ruth B. Longs and Marthenia Jones.
Those left to cherish her fond and loving memories include her devoted sister and caregiver: Annie M. (Ben) Bethea and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other relatives and friends including a special friend: Goldie Fitzhugh of Philadelphia, PA.
