“Do not sorrow for the joy of the Lord is your strength” -Nehemiah 8:10

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, God sent and angel down to call his faithful servant Mother Malvola Brown home to a place of eternal rest!
Malvola Brown was born on December 19, 1927 to the late Marion and Octavia McGaney of Manning, SC.

She attended school in Clarendon County, SC and graduated from the Marion County Public School Systems. Later she attended A&T State University earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education.

Mother Brown joined the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist church at an early age and truly enjoyed spending time at church with family and friends praising God. She served as Church Mother; Treasurer of the Mother Leaders; and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a dedicated member of several Missionary Outreach Programs and diligently studied bible principles. She believed that the Bible was not just the “Good Book”, but it was a good book to read and follow in her daily life. Furthermore, she believed that her children were not only a precious resource, but also a blessing from God.

Mother Brown met and married Hugene Gerald of Manning, SC who preceded her in death. She was a very devoted and loving wife and mother. This union was blessed with 3 children.

Mother Brown later met and married Rev. Willie Lee Brown of Florence, SC and became a dedicated First Lady at her husband's side as he pastored the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, which was one of several. Rev. Brown also preceded her in death.

Mother Brown’s life closed a chapter of her family’s generation. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and son Hugene Marion (Button) Gerald.

Mother Brown worked in the Marion County School System for many years as an Elementary School Teacher. She retired from the Florence County School System after 30 years of service. Following retirement, she continued to be an inspiration to all who knew her.

Mother Brown was a lifelong member of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church and attended regularly as the church mother. She loved her pastor and church family and continued to contribute liberally even after her health declined causing relocation to be cared for by her loving family.

Mother Brown will be missed by her loving family, her church family and those whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Mother Brown was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves to lovingly cherish her memory and celebrate her legacy of love 2 daughters: Phyllis (Rev. Percy) Everson of Disputanta, VA; Malvia (Joseph) Mitchell of Springfield, VA. 5 grandchildren: Marcus (Claire), of West Chester, PA; Everett Everson of Asheville, NC; Kristoffer (Leslie) Everson of Odenton, MD; Breck (Paul) Taylor of Bristow, VA; Brittney (Jamaal) Williams of Long Beach, CA; 8 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
