Little Blackson Obituary

Sister Little Irene Blackson, 65, departed this life Thursday July 18, 2019 in Florence. She was the mother of Derrick Gaskins and TaShekia Williams. You may visit the family at 1108 Southwood Road, Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Monument of Faith Ministries Wednesday July 24, 2019 at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins.

Little Irene Edwards Blackson also known as "Pookie", "Blackmoon", "Grandma", and to her ministry family & friends known as Apostle Irene Blackson was born May 2, 1954 to the late George Edwards and Irene Lee Bethea Edwards in Paterson, NJ. Little Irene transitioned to be with the Lord on July 18, 2019. She was a graduate of JFK High School and continued her higher education at William Paterson College with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education becoming the owner and director for her own daycare and school, Building Blocks For Kids Christian Daycare Center (Philadelphia, PA) Little Irene also served in the United States Army where she received a honorable medical discharge. 

Little Irene served faithfully in the following ministerial capacities; Youth, praise and worship leader, choir director for Gilmore Memorial (Dr. Alene Gilmore-Paterson, NJ), Elder & Sunday School Superintendent Greater Covenant Worship Center (Bishop Eric & Pastor Sonja Wortham- Philadelphia, PA) Praise dance coordinator and intercessory prayer leader for Memorial Tabernacle Baptist Church (Bishop A. Marcus Coston). Affirmed as a Prophetess in the Lords Church by Apostle Detrick L. Gaskins (Body of Christ Univ. Training Center- Gary, Indiana) Ordained as Pastor of Grace & Mercy Fellowship Church (Bishop Aaron & Juniata G. Troy-Evangelical House of God, Fayetteville, NC) relocating to Marion, SC where she was affirmed as Apostle (Apostle Demond & Yolanda Grace- Conway, SC)

Little Irene was very passionate about the Lord and expressed those passions through the vehicles of preaching & teaching the word of God, praise dance, singing and simply loving on people. Little was known throughout her community, city and abroad receiving numerous awards & accolades for her outstanding work in the community. 

She is preceded in death by her sister Maurice Williams & Brother In-Law Wilbur McClain.

Little Irene Blackson leaves behind a son, Detrick L. Gaskins (Las Vegas, NV) , a daughter TaShekia Williams (Marion, SC), two grandchildren, DeMeta Diani Gaskins (Philadelphia PA.) and Eric Moody (Marion, SC), seven other siblings; George (Daisy) Edwards-Queens NY, Robert (Indra) Edwards- Paterson NJ, Ricky Edwards- Paterson NJ, Garrett Edwards- Paterson NJ, Handsome Gray- Paterson NJ, Joannie Edwards- Paterson NJ, Angelite McClam- Paterson NJ, Tabatha (Michael)- Sussex, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, God children, spiritual daughters and sons. Special Grands: Dachaun Williams, Vinniesha Philips, Alexis Sainvil and Kelvin Hicks Jr. Special Caretakers: Rose Davis, Yolanda Davis, Marie Johnson, Peggy Miles.
