Deacon Levern Hughes, 76, departed this life on Tuesday July 10, 2018 in Florence County. He was the husband of Shirley Hughes, the father of Barbara Hughes, Edward Hughes, Kenneth Hughes, Trent Hughes, Myeshia Rogers and Jeremy Evans. You may visit the family at 5847 Hwy 9, Gresham.
Wake services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, Monday July 16, 2018 6pm-8pm. Friendship Lodge # 330 will be in charge of rites.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Gresham Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Tuesday July 17, 2018 at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest in the Gresham Chapel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

On Tuesday morning God chose a new flower to add to his garden, he named this flower “Levern”.
Deacon Levern Hughes departed this life on July 10, 2018 at the McLeod Hospice House. He was born on May 1, 1942 the son of Deacon Edward and Elizabeth Hughes. He attended the public schools of Marion County, South Carolina. He attended John Wesley Church in Gresham and received Christ at an early age. He later joined Gresham Chapel where he proudly held the position of Deacon.
He married Shirley Ruth Dixon on April 3, 1963 and their union was blessed with five children. Levern was a hard worker and held several jobs including employment at Raytex Cone Mills in Marion SC. Levern had a love for helping others and never met a stranger. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, planting and harvesting large gardens, hunting and cutting grass. Some of his favorite foods were watermelons and lima beans.
He was preceded in death by one son Michael Hughes.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Shirley Hughes and daughter Barbara Hughes of the home. Four sons Edward (Brenda) Hughes, Charlotte, NC, Kenneth (Lucinda) Hughes, Marion, SC, Trent Hughes, Charlotte, NC, Sean (Dierdre) Bennett, Marion, SC., twenty grandchildren, nine great children, eleven foster children, two special sons; John (Nita) Lewis, Conway, SC and Thomas Brown, Myrtle Beach , SC, three god-children; Latoria (Henry) Reed, Veronica Rogers and Charles Rogers, his siblings; Vernie Womack, Wardell (Jewel ) Hughes of Greensboro, NC, James Hughes, Jacob Hughes, Lola (Rev. Joseph) Bennett, Richardlene (Nelson) Davis and Joyce Owens all of Gresham, SC, and a host of other relatives and friends.
