James Hall Obituary

James David Hall, 88,  affectionately known as “Papa” departed this life on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence, SC. He was son of the late Maggie Hall and uncle of Gwendolyn Hall, Kathy Hall, Pamela Alston. You may visit the family at 507 Henry McGill Jr. St. between the hours of 12:00 pm-7:00pm.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel Monday February 11, 2019 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest in the Florence National Cemetery, Florence SC.

James David Hall affectionately known as "Papa Hall and Jimmy Hall" was born on October 15, 1930 to the late Maggie Hall Davis. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 3:41 p.m. at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina.

He attended the Marion County Training School in Marion South Carolina. Later in life he was drafted into the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He spend most of his adult years in Brooklyn, New York, where he worked at a  Garment Center where they made all types of clothing and later he worked at a Refrigeration Company both in New York City. After being in New York for fifty-two plus years, he decided to move back home to Marion. After moving back he was the babysitter for the young babies in the family.

He was a lover of sports especially the New York giants who were his favorite; and was an excellent cook. He loved all children and would tell them to "come give me a hug" and he was always ready to give them candy, cookies, pies and dollars too!. He loved talking, making you laugh with family and his friends; he had a loving and giving heart to everyone who met him and everyone who needed his help.

Jimmy Hall was preceded in death by his mother, uncles, aunt, along with all his brothers and sisters.

 Papa leaves to cherish his loving memories ~ his favorite nephew: Quentin S. Hall of Atlanta, GA: his niece and caregiver: Gwendolyn Hall of Marion, SC; his other special nieces that he loved: Kathy D. Hall, Pamela Alston both of Marion, SC and Tora D. Hall of Orlando FL; two sisters-n-law: Jackquilin B. Hall of Marion, SC and Bernice C. Hall of Hinesville, GA; his adopted sister and friend: Betty James; his great nieces: Sivitra Hall, Karachi Hall, Scheresa Hall, Charlene Alston; nephews: Store Jason Hall of Jacksonville, FL, Brian Alston of Washington, DC, Brad Alston of Augusta, GA, and Corey Alston of Columbia, SC, other relatives and friends.
