Bro. James Lee Charles, 80, departed this life on Monday July 30, 2018 in Georgia. He was the husband of Gracie Charles, the father of Anna Miller, Loretta Shell, Retha Mae Charles, Sandra Charles, James Charles Jr., Harry Charles and Gregory Charles.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Tuesday August 7, 2018 at 2:00pm. He will be laid to rest in the Jackson & Daughters Cemetery, Marion.

The eightieth and final chapter of the book of life of Mr. James Lee Charles, Sr. was closed on Monday July 30, 2018.

Mr. James Lee was the son of the late Mr. Willie Charles and Mrs. Arbella Miles Charles. He was born and reared in the Laughlin, Cedar Grove and Pee Dee Communities of Marion County. James Lee attended the public schools of the county as well. James Lee worked at the Brick Yard (presently Blue Brick) in Pee Dee, Marvel Lighting and Sara Lee Hosiery. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved hunting and fishing. James Lee was blessed with a sense of humor and also loved to make people laugh. James Lee joined St. Matthew Baptist Church at an early age and attended regularly until relocating to Marion. Upon relocating, James Lee joined Mt. Pisgah and attended until his health failed.

James Lee met and married the love of his life, Ms. Gracie Adams. This union was blessed with seven children. James Lee was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Annie Mae Scott.

James leaves to cherish his fond and loving memories his wife Mrs. Gracie Charles, four daughters; Mrs. Anna (Bernard) Miller of Seattle Washington, Mrs. Loretta (William) Shell of Winston, Georgia, Ms. Retha Mae Charles and Ms. Sandra Charles of Seattle Washington, three sons, Mr. James Charles Jr. of Seattle Washington, Mr. Harry (Debra) Charles of Douglasville, Georgia and Mr. Gregory (Marsha) Charles of Portland, Oregon, twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-six great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Ethel Charles of Philadelphia, Pa, Mrs. Dorothy Bowens of Marion, SC, Mrs. Charolette (Henry) Patterson of Lamar, SC, and Mrs. Annie Ruth Gause of Charleston, SC. One sister-in-law Mrs. Mattie Johnson of Latta, SC and a host of other loving relatives and close friends.
