Brother Ernest Lee Hendley, 68, departed this life Thursday September 19, 2019 at his home in Florence County. He was the husband of Gloria Hendley. You may visit the family at 11 Regent St. Quinby, SC.
Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Florence Baptist Temple 2308 S. Irby St. Florence SC, Tuesday September 24, 2019 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins.
~ THE OBITUARY ~
Ernest Lee Hendley, affectionately called “Sonny”, was born on October 7, 1950 in Marion County, South Carolina. He was the only son of three, born to the late Leroy Hendley and Corine Singleton Hendley. He passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 19, 2019.
Ernest received his early education from Marion County Public Schools, graduating from Johnakin High School in 1969. He was employed by both E. I. Dupont and ESAB Companies for a total of 28 years before retiring. Following retirement, he was a school bus driver for the Florence School District One. Ernest accepted Jesus Christ at an early age as his Lord and Savior. He was a faithful member of Florence Baptist Temple where he enjoyed attending Sunday School classes. He attended church every Sunday up until the time that his health declined.
Ernest Hendley leaves to cherish and honor his memory: his wife of 40 years, Gloria Hunter Hendley; a daughter, Porsha (Corey) Johnson of Plainsboro, NJ, a son D’Mario Hendley of Hamilton, NJ; a grandson, Noah Johnson; Siblings, Wilma (Frank) Latigue of Marion, SC, Flora Gerald of Mullins, SC; Special friends Oscar Brantley of Latta, SC, Woodrow “Zam” Waiters of Florence, SC, Elijah Brown of Marion, SC, Gregory and Addie Cain of Quinby, SC, Roy Thompson of Florence, SC, David Frierson of Florence, SC, Tommy and Terry Walkup of Florence, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
