Elmay Ruth Rowell

Sis. Elmay Ruth Rowell, 65, departed this life on Saturday June 16, 2018 in Florence County. She was the sister of Lonnette Davis and Francis Marion Rowell. You may visit the family at 1816 Ransom Rowell Rd. Gresham.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Tabernacle AME Church Thursday June 21, 2018 at 2:00pm. She will be laid to rest in the Tabernacle AME Church Cemetery.

~Obituary~

On Saturday June 16, 2018, Ms. Elma Ruth Rowell heard a sweet voice whispered “come with me my child your mother and father are waiting for you at Heaven’s Gate.” Ruth kindly smiled and took God’s hand.

Elma Ruth as she was affectionately called was born December 16, 1952 in Marion County, South Carolina to Mr. Tony Rowell and Eveline Legette Rowell.

Elma Ruth was educated in the public schools of Marion County, South Carolina.

Elma Ruth was converted at an early age and joined Tabernacle AME Church, Gresham as a member and sung on the choir and with the Shepherds of Joy for twenty-seven years.

Elma Ruth was employed at Russell Stoves Candies, Marion South Carolina for sixteen years and with Westgate Resort (formally Holiday Inn), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for thirty five years until her health failed.

Ruth enjoyed cooking, watching Law & Order, the cooking channel and the weather channel. She mostly enjoyed spending quality time with her sister Lonnette (The Golden Girls).

Ruth leaves to cherish her fond memories one sister Lonnette (Elmore) Davis, one brother Francis (Nettie Mae) Rowell, Florida, two children reared as her own Jeffrey (Yvonne) Legette, Columbia, South Carolina, Dion (Wanda) Legette, Lexington, South Carolina, one special nephew Elmore K. Davis, Marion South Carolina, two aunts Betty L. Rowell, Marion South Carolina, Annie M. Rowell, Marion, SC, one uncle Marion (Mageline) Rowell, close cousin Ronnie B. Legette, Brooklyn New York, best friend Maecile Shaw, Gresham, South Carolina. Host of sorrowing nieces, nephews, and cousins.
