Dorothy Bowens Obituary

Sister Dorothy Charles Bowens was 76 and departed this life Sunday January 19, 2020 in Columbia, SC. She was the mother of Raymond Bowens and Curtis Bowens. 

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Saturday January 25, 2020 at 2:00 pm. She will be laid to rest in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins.

~ Obituary ~

Ms. Dorothy Charles Bowens was the fourth child born to the late Mr Willie and Mrs Arbella Charles on July 1, 1943.  Dorothy was affectionately known as “Dot” to her family and friends. She entered into a fuller and richer life with God on January 19, 2020 at Providence Northeast Hospital, Columbia SC.

Dorothy was a native of the Marion Community.  She attended the public schools of Marion County.  She worked at Russell Stovers for over 30 years.  Prior to this, she worked at Southern Packaging for several years.  At an early age, she joined the baptist church.  She made Mount Pisgah her home church.  There she served on the Inspirational Choir, the Young Adult Usher Board, the Praise and Worship Choir, the Flower Committee and the Kitchen Committee.  Dorothy served in any capacity asked of her until her health would no longer allow.  While she was physically able, she was an active community servant and was a member of the Mount Zion Tent No. One.

“Dot” was united in marriage to Mr Aundry Bowens.  And, before their disunion, they were blessed with two children: Raymond and Curtis.

She was preceded in death by her sisters: Annie Mae Scott, Annie Ruth Gause, and her brother, James Lee Charles.   Left to cherish her fond memories are her sons: Raymond (Thomas) Bowens of Marion, SC, Curtis (Stacie) Bowens of Columbia, SC; grandchildren: Shalise (Dasean) DeShazer of Gilbert, Arizona, Brandon Bowens and Stephen Bowens of Columbia, SC;  great-grandchild: Mycah DeShazer of Gilbert Arizona;  two sisters: Ethel Charles of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Charlotte (Henry) Patterson of Lamar, SC; a brother and sister in law: Donald and Helen Bowens of Marion, SC; special daughters: Nicole Threatt of Columbia, SC, and Mary Jacobs of Columbia, SC;  a special son, Danny Davis of Marion, SC, and a loving and devoted friend, Betty Graves of Mullins, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
